Galen and hiccups

This probably had been discussed already, but here you go anyway.

I was reading up on hiccups...yes I know..."hiccups?" I have the hiccups and whenever I don't know something I google it. Anyway I read this passage:

What Causes a Hiccup?

People have been pondering the precise cause of hiccups for thousands of years. Ancient Greek physician Galen, for example, hypothesized that hiccups were simply violent emotions that began in the stomach and erupted out the mouth. This hypothesis has not exactly been disproved, but since then, we have come up with many more.

Yeah, I've heard of Galen a few times out of the books. I think there was a mention on Jeopardy once. He was really highly esteemed in his time, but by now scientists have proved much of what he said wrong. The Mede Empire existed too, I googled it once. There were also Eastern Europe/Mediterranean countries called Anatolia and....I forget the name of the other, but it was similar to Attolia.
