I had so much fun during the character chat, that I thought it was worth it to pay ten bucks in order to save the full transcript. I do think it's a pretty sneaky way for Chatzy to get money. Honestly, it is better than ads though. Can you imagine being forced to watch a commercial for toilet paper before you are allowed to enter the chat room? Bleh.

Anyway, Livejournal won't let me paste the chat directly into this post, saying that it is too large. So I made a google doc and changed the settings so that anyone can see it, google doc users or not. Let me know if you can't access the link. There is a fun surprise ending (some of you are already aware of it though.)

Well I just took my Biology paper today, and I could not resist.

It really does not work that way. )

As we prepare for Hurricane Sandy's impact, we hope that allowing her to blow out her frustrations on the Eastern seaboard will allow her to calm down, and perhaps begin to see Eugenides in a new, better light. (Or at least give him a few sand free days as she is busy elsewhere!!:)

More Hurricane names ... )

Supporting Characters:

We all have a lot of love for our main characters, but I'm contemplating the place of the supporting roles within the QT universe. These supporting characters have so much personality, voice, and story of their own that they are not only real to us, but absolutely beloved. Some may even earn the title of Honorary Main Character(Hello, Ornon). Others pass through briefly or pop back in but are so brilliantly characterized I can't fail to love them (Oh, Terve, you lovable drunk). Or perhaps they interact with our Kings and Queens and help me to know the monarchs better. (Sophos, meeting Basrus again at the Baron's meet, shows us who he is now. No longer the sniffling little man who hated everyone as he lay helpless in the hull of a boat. He came face to face with his enemy's handtool, and behaved like ...a King.)
And my all time favorite: Phresine. *sigh* I love that our MWT doesn't tell us, "Wise old Phresine is wise, loves her Queen, and is to be trusted." Nope, she shows us Phresine in action and her character just unfolds.
So, what supporting characters do you love, and why? What do they add? Why are they there? And how in the world does MWT do it?

Ok, I'll try to get the LJ cut thing to work. These are signs seen on my travels so far this summer and I thought everyone might get a kick out of them. I always love spotting character names in the real world! I would be interested if anyone else had similar sightings. In these cases, I have spotted Galen and Agape (two AWESOME characters!). Sorry for the bad pics, but I was on the move.

See pics... )

Ok, so I may be totally off base, and I really hope I am... but I have a wonder about the physicians' duel in CoK. Why did Gen ask to see Galen? Why is everyone worried about the king's health?

Now, granted, he just survived an assassination attempt, and everyone should worry about the health of their king since the security of their nation depends on it, but... I wonder if Attolia and Gen are having trouble producing an heir.

Now, obviously that would create huge problems in Attolia and rob us all of the joy of watching little Gens and Irenes, and I am probably reading too much into three sentences or whatever, but... does anyone else wonder this?

Please forgive me if this has been posted before, but if it hasn't, those who share my adoration for the doctor of Eddis will enjoy this very much...

This probably had been discussed already, but here you go anyway.

I was reading up on hiccups...yes I know..."hiccups?" I have the hiccups and whenever I don't know something I google it. Anyway I read this passage:

What Causes a Hiccup?

People have been pondering the precise cause of hiccups for thousands of years. Ancient Greek physician Galen, for example, hypothesized that hiccups were simply violent emotions that began in the stomach and erupted out the mouth. This hypothesis has not exactly been disproved, but since then, we have come up with many more.

So I searched a bit more and found this:

Pretty neat stuff. :)

So...here's a discussion question for fun:  Who is your favorite MINOR character in the books, and why?  Or, which minor character would you like to know more about?

Have at it.

I'm starting another thread because the old one is so far back.

I was just re-reading KoA (again) and got to the part where Attolia goes to Gen's tent and sees Galen removing the hook from Gen's arm. (Pause for a moment while my heart melts over Gen's pain, and Attolia's recognition of it). Anyway, it's mentioned that Galen's wearing the "green-trimmed tunic of a physician." Okay, okay, I'm stretching things, but what struck me was that green is usually the color of healing in Eddis and Attolia, but Attolia wears it in that cell...

Not sure what conclusions I can draw from that, it just seemed an interesting thing!
