Hi! I thought I would stop lurking around and introduce myself.  I got interested in The Queen's Thief books last year when we were taking standardized tests at school.  I had went to the library, saw the Queen of Attolia cover (The one with Gen and Attolia in the boat-hardcover) and checked it out.  I could hardly stop reading it after I started.  Then, I read The King of Attolia.  I was reading the KoA one day, and my friend had forgot her book on a test day.  We got in trouble if we didn't have a book (plus it was boring) so I told her to read QoA.  We normally don't agree on books, but she loved it, too.  I finished KoA, then she read it.  In the mean time, I got The Thief.  I love these books.  There is those huge turns that you don't expect, but when you look back, you see all of the little clues.  My friend and I talk about them almost constantly.  We can't wait for the new one.  Now, we are discussing the little clues  that we picked up here.  I thought it was time to join in the discussions.  I think I definietly missed out on some of the surprise when I read The Thief because I had read the other two first (I had found out about Gen by then).  Anyway, I love this community, the discussion is great!

Welcome! Lucky you, to have a friend to love them with. It was months before I could convince my friends to read them... but they have now, and the loved them (of course), and in the mean time I made friends here!

Hi! I'm also at failure to convert anyone as they claim they have enough readings from textbooks...
I was always surprise I read the thief. I got the god looking cover and almost went to judging a book by its cover as it looked nothing like the newest cover online I expected to get. Good to know I read it!

Welcome abroad!

Welcome! now down to business.

Please join my Gen-does-NOT-look-like-a-rapist-on-that-cover club. Current membership: me. I first read the book because of that cover! I saw it on one of our shelves, fell in love with it, and had to read it! wasn't too long until I was in love with Gen, too...

WHY ARE YOU ALL SO PIGHEADED I KNOW HE LOOKS TOO OLD AND YES ATTOLIA LOOKS TOO YOUNG BUT GEN IS STILL AWESOME ON THAT COVER.

Lol, sorry I started ranting there. I'm very defensive about that cover. It's falling apart, so sad. *tear*. It'll be great to have you on the comm!

(checkers. THE RED ONE.)

*goes to look at the cover again*

It's the lighting, and he's depicted as being pretty ruthless in that scene of the book (since we're seeing through Attolia's pov). That combined with Attolia's lack of facial expressions (fewer wrinkles to make her look older? ;), it's fine. I like this cover, too. Definitely does not look like a rapist. So, membership: Two.

:P

OK, he looks a LOT older in this picture than in the one I saw off Amazon.co.uk. Hilarious picture though.

I don't think he looks like a rapist...more like someone who might want to be a rapist who is going to be seasick.

Didn't see this post before.
There is, in fact, a weirdness here.
Some covers look like that - some look like this:

Similar to the continual, "where the heck did the things in the fire go?" question about the UK QoA cover.

Raise the membership to four: my friend & I agree. I think my favorite cover over all is The KoA cover. What about you?

He... okay, this is unfair. HE LOOKS LIKE A VAMPIRE. I know this is totally just my brain, but his hair and the surroundings are so dark, and his face is so pale (too pale, from what the books says), and his ears are pointy, and he's all scowly.

But he's not a rapist vampire, I don't think. Just a moody one.

Oh yeah, and welcome, newcomer! I love your username. :D It makes me think of something Gen would have as a screenname, I confess.

A one-handed, moody, seasick rapist vampire goatfoot!

So does look like a rapist. :P

But, as has been said before, it depends on which Gen-face you're looking at.

I admit I'm mostly just amused by the "Gen-as-a-rapist" nickname, I don't actually think it entirely true.

Five!

I like this one too, and it was the copy I read (not the copy I own though. Grr). Gen doesn't look old, he just looks - moody. Cranky. Sort of piratical.

I also read the books in the same order you did. So I already knew about the Thief but I was totally shocked when Gen asked to be the King because he loved Attolia in QoA. I never saw it coming and that moment is one of my top five fave reading moments.
