I lent my copy of The Thief to a friend so I have a (possibly stupid) question for y'all.

What exactly does Hamiathes' Gift look like? I know it's small, but does it really have a stone set in the center like the one on the latest cover of TT?

I need to know 'cause I'm writing a little drabble and I describe the stone at one point. I just want to make sure I've got it right.

For humouring me and answering a question that I should know the answer to, perhaps I should offer some sort of consolation prize? I'm in a writing mood lately, so first person to answer can request a drabble, if they so choose. You can pick character, pairing, genre, prompt, song lyric, whatever, and I'll get that written for you soon. :)

Thanks!

Thanks [livejournal.com profile] openedlocket and [livejournal.com profile] jade_sabre_301! That's exactly what I needed to know.

Also, no one's taken me up on that drabble offer yet. I am perfectly serious. ;)

Eta: Okay, one more thing. ^^; How does Eddis go about disposing of the stone? Does she just throw it over a cliff or something?

The stone looks like an ordinary stone but if you let the light shine on it you can see the sapphire in the middle and the writing. (right?) I can't be too sure because I haven't the book for a long time ;)

yep. and it has a hole drilled through it, hence the light being able to pick up on the sapphire (well, and I guess you can see it through the carved letters too).

I always imagined it as a kind of lopsided black-and-white-speckled stone, but that's just personal embellishment.

(...I think I have a better mental image of Hamiathes's Gift than I do of any of the character's faces. Hm.)

Drabble, I am so going to request. Hmmm *has a mischeivous look* anyone have objection to Agape/Costis? (oh never mind) hmmmm. Jade, any suggestions, since you answered too.

She throws it into a volcano with witnesses from Eddis, Attolia and Sounis.

No prob. I will take you up on the drabble offer as soon as I've got something good, allow me to contemplate on a controversial/sweet pairing first.

Oh btw. I saw something else in the Eugenides wiki if you want to be more specific. She threw the gift into the Sacred mountain.

*wince* Yeah, the illustration on the cover is a bit off. :( I think the sapphire just peaks through at certain points.

And...

Don't forget, she makes a great show about it. She brings lots of witnesses, and from all three countries, I think. Of course, everyone promptly forgets about the "magicalness" of it. Except for Eddis, her memory of it fades away a little more slowly. (sorry, I'm rambling, but I thought it might help...)
