Is this a trick question for choosing favorite Gen in book one, two, or three? That's about where the dividing lines are if he can't be more than one of the descriptions at a time (because he IS always the Eddisian thief, but he's only that alone in QoA).

That wasn't exactly what I meant, but it does split up like that, in a way. Still, when I think of him as the Queen's Thief, I don't think of him in QoA; I think of before, or right after, TT.

You mean Queen's Thief as the boy that we see very little of but hear about enough to understand then? His less-eventful (for lack of a better word) time spent in Eddis?

Well, for the poll it was obviously meant to be open for interpretation; for myself, yes, I was more thinking of his days in Eddis.

But it wasn't meant to be split into specific time frames, exactly; I just meant which persona do you like the most, wherever and whenever he uses them?

confession: that would be why I picked Gen the Thief, because he's that alone in QoA, and that one's my favorite.

also, rosalui, if you WEREN'T thinking of him as such in QoA, how would you classify that? I'll agree he's definitely a different Thief than he was in the beginning of that one (two-handed and still cocky--well, we can assume he was cocky, before he was almost caught--think about how he washed his hands and then strolled off to get dinner), but...hm. Now I have to think.

I would actually steal Rain's answer below about emo Gen and Rosalui's answer about Gen the Depressed. Because Gen-the-Depressed reaches into my gut with a hook and swirls around my insides and I just want to give him a HUG. Also piningunrequitedGen!love is love. He's...himself, not fully realized, but with all the parts there, and he grows into them and assembles them as the book goes on. I know KoA is about him clicking everything together, but a lot of it is already put together in that one; QoA is about being unsure, wanting things but not knowing if he'll ever get them, dealing with change and hardship.

if uh, that made any sense.

p.s. I wonder how many people realize that this icon is supposed to be Sophos anymore? XD

In the beginning of QoA, yes, he's still quite Thief-like; but later on, he's more like Gen the Depressed than Gen the Thief. D: As I said above, though, this wasn't meant to be book-specific or time-specific; just which personality do you like best?
