Hi, everybody!

I was just wondering if anybody has named a pet after any of the Queen's Thief characters?

Here's the reason I am asking:
Costis
This is my new dragon/plakat type betta fish. I was thinking of calling him Teleus, but my sister said, "Costis needs a fish named after him."

Isn't he beautiful?

;-D

I refuse to admit how much of a better mood I'm in after seeing the picture of your fishy. |:

I have five betta. Two are named after Transformers (Starscream and Skyfire) and two are named after Greek mythological figures (Hermes and Cerberus). And the fifth is named Philonikes which was totally stolen from The Thief. So yes. And there's your long winded answer for the day.

YOUR FISH IS SO ADORABLE, BY THE WAY! Now I feel a little less like a freaky fish lady. ;;

I have an iPod named Irene.

I have a computer named Irene. In retrospect this was a Not Very Good Idea. Is your Irene the iPod as demanding and as difficult to work with as my Irene the computer?

Yes. I do not think however that she is trying to poison me, and I still have both hands. In retrospect, it's still better than my habit of naming computers after famous conquerors.

I just named my iPod Sophos. Thank you for the idea! :D

Those two red front fins remind me of Nahuzeresh (total spelling breakdown, I know). But then you'd want your pet to die, and we can't have that. But the fin colors are so vibrant, it seems like it should be named for one of the royals. Or the gods. Hephestia is kind of a big name for a fish, granted, but Klimun is a nice name for a fish and he was a prince ...

... putting too much thought into this ...

I'm sorry. I love Costis and am not married to a fish; therefore, I am renaming your fish...Nahuserfish! No, no, just kidding! The fins do resemble a beard, though. But he's far too noble, obviously.

I used to have a beta fish that I also named after something from QT! I named him Aracthus. Alas, he only lived a few years and is no longer with us...

I love the despondent way in which he stares at his reflection in the side of the fish bowl. "Woe is me," he says. "Who gave the King a Wand of Transmogrification?"

(things that are awesome in a different way: the fact that Firefox has "transmogrification" in its spellcheck.)

he is a very beautiful fish! :-D

Why yes!

We have a kitten called Eugenides. Strictly speaking, he doesn't belong to us, but turned up one day and wouldn't leave. Even when we shut all the doors and windows and blocked the catdoor, he still managed to find some way into the house. His thief-y house-breaking skillz won our hearts and his name.

(Actually, tencups_i_swear did the heart-winning and naming, while I was still going 'No! No more cats! Put him outside before Elderly Neurotic Feline starts going beserk!' I believe she posted a picture of him, along with Sophos the rubber duck, on her LJ, too.)

I kept a stray, orange tabby that followed me and my sisters home one day. He was a blessing is disguise. Not only did he become a fond memory of my childhood, he kept all the mice and squirrels at bay. He was called Kitty, and he had the cutest "meow".

Your cats sounds adorable and what a fit name for a clever cat. My cat wasn't very clever, sadly. He once ran into something while chasing a mouse once, and he got stuck on the roof frequently.

BTW, TA. We are now holding chats on History Haven. We have them every other weekend, with a late night chat on Saturday and an afternoon chat on Sunday. I'll send you the password for the chat-room if you want to stop by.

Cats are so silly sometimes, but they manage to work their way into our hearts somehow. Your Kity sounds lovely.

Thank you for the heads-up on History Haven chats, I may be able to drop by now. Is the password on the HH LJ?

Yes, but you can't accuse it unless you rejoin (it's a locked post). You don't have to rejoin if you would just like to come to the chats. Since you were a member, I could still give you the password. I'll just e-mail it to you if you want me to.

The schedule for the chats is in the profile.

But I promise, I had no intention of accusing it of anything, even if I was allowed. Honest!

Err... That would be some malapropism there for you...

I mean access, of course.

I'll send you the password right now.

No pets named after Thief characters, no. But awhile back our apartment got three fish which we named Zuko, Agni Kai, and Medraut. Sadly, Zuko and Agni Kai died not long after we got them, but unsurprisingly Medraut was made of tougher stuff. Actually, he went through ALOT, it was a kind of joke in our apartment that he was going to survive the apocalypse. And then--get this--he DISSAPPEARED. He didn't somehow jump out of the tank, or die hiding under some rock, or get sucked into the filter. One day he JUST WASN'T THERE. We became known in our ward/congregation as The Apartment Whose Fish Got Translated.

I have not acquired any new pets since I started reading The Thief series, but my dog, Finrod, is named from the Sillmarillion.

Yes. He is a standard poodle, very intelligent, and an escape artist. Finrod is known as the friend of man, and I thought it was a good name for a dog. Your fish is beautiful. To bad that only male betta fish are that pretty. If he was a she you should have called her Attolia.

Not from QT, but we have had three cats named Scaramouche, Fandango and Bohemian.
My parents have strange tastes!

I think the Fandango is a dance, but the three names together come from 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen - there's a line that goes 'Scaramouch, Scaramouch, will you do the Fandango'. Apparently the next cat was going to be called Rhapsody, but when she came she was second hand and already named, so we were spared!

Some of our neighbors had cats that were named after the players in Monty Python's Philosopher's Football Game!
Whoa. That is awesome.

I'm just a poor boy, nobody loves me...

I knew that the names were referencing Bohemian Rhapsody before I even finished reading them all. Does this mean I also have strange tastes? ;-)

He's just a poor boy from a poor family

But... but I thought you already knew that? I JEST, I JEST ;-)
I do quite like the song - it's one of those you seem to know by osmosis, really! But naming the cats after it seems a little... odd. Odd, but good.

Ok. I have no pets named after QT (they all but Tie pre-date my reading) but Tie does happen to be one of the man-killing Attolian hunting dogs. Just sayin'...

My next pet is either going to be Eddis, Costis or Fin-kedinn, but my best friend is determined to name one of her her kids if she has any, Gen whether it is a girl or boy.
