I DISAPPROVE STRONGLY OF SOPHOS WITH A MOUSTACHE. I hope I am mistaken and that is just some sort of weird shadow above his lip.

lol is it me or i like the old cover slightly better than mustache Sophos...rather brown indeed, though the new one still looks like he has stubble, just less prominent. Wish i can zoom closer. All he really needs a light stubble, if anything.

I like the rest of the cover, but the facial hair and the wispy blond hair bug me. Maybe once I know story and how the cover fits, it will work. But right now... eh.

This might be the cover we are stuck with. It matches the cover on Amazon. If this is the cover they are going public with...well, yeah.

(I'm not fond of the mustache, either. I much preferred the beard..or little blushing Sophos, but that's what we have TT for.)

The mustache is just incredibly wrong. It looks like the beard scruff was erased on Photoshop and the mustache was filled in with a sharpie. What are they thinking?!?

I'm glad they toned down the scruff. It looks more like a 5 o'clock shadow now.

But! I do not like the French looking skinny mustache.

It's not just the facial hair. The lighting and his skin tone are different between the two as well. Oddly enough, I can only tell the difference in lighting when I look at his face and the horse, not his clothing.

Am I the only one who is not entirely convinced there *was* stubble in the first place? It looks like the image was just a bit dark and grainy, making the shadow on his chin appear stubble-like. All it looks like they did is lighten the image entirely and repost it to try and clear up any confusion.

And now that the "stubble" distraction has been remedied, people are flipping out about a shadow that has been there the whole time that happens to look like a mustache... :P (This artist loves their dramatic shadows, after all. That's really all it probably is.)

I think I'll continue witholding opinions until I see an actual printed cover instead of low-res computer images. Can I just say I love this artist either way? XD brb, swooning over details

The shading under his lip was a little different in the clean shaven original but I agree that it could just be shading and not a mustache at all.

I've created a limerick ode to the cover of ACoK:

At first Sophos's chin was bare
Under a mane of shiny blond hair
His cheek held a blush
He was in a mad rush
Obviously escaping somewhere

Then Sophos sported some scruff
It made him look kind of tough
His hair stayed the same
His eyes didn't remain
But his face matched well his handcuff

Now his chin's bared again
His hair and he escaped the slave's den
He managed to shave
But the mustache he saved
Though it looks like it's drawn on with pen.

I have to weigh in on this now: I like the scruffy one. He looks dirty and rough, as though he's been slaving away. Also I like the quality of the light better in that one. And I like the original original one least.
