Yesterday, I was watching Harry Potter and the Socerer's Stone and as a watch little Harry, Hermione, Ron and Malfoy line up for the sorting hat I could help but wonder...

What house would Eugenides be sorted into?

Now, that really stumped me so I thought: Where do YOU think the sorting hat would place Gen?

How about Eddis, Irene Attolia, Costis, Aris, Lady Heiro, Stenides Relius, Teleus, MoW, the Erondite brothers, Narhuserfish?

Also who do you think would make their house Quidditch team?

A bit on the houses: 

Gryffindor: 
values courage, bravery, loyalty, nerve and chivalry.
Mascot: Lion
Colors: Scarlet & Gold

Hufflepuff:
values hardwork, tolerance, loyalty and fairplay
Mascot: Badger
Colors: Canary Yellow, Black

Ravenclaw:
values intelligence, creativity, learning and wit
Mascot: Eagle
Colors: Blue and Bronze

Slytherin: 
values ambition, cunning, leadership, resourcefulness
Mascot: Serpent
Colors: Green and Silver

Hmmm, Hmmm, I'm inclined to say EUgenides would be in Gryffindor. Also in Ravenclaw. Um, and in Slytherin. Oh yeah, and in Hufflepuff. Hamiathes Hiney. Mostly though, He's a cross between a Slytherin and a Grryindor. WIth quite a lot of Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw thrown in.

Eddis, Hufflepuff? But she's also very smart. AND brave. So um.
Attolia. Slytherin . . .but . . . Ravenclaw?

Gen and Attolia would both be in Slytherin, hands down.

Eddis--I waver. Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff.

Relius would also be a Slytherin.

Teleus and Costis would be Gryffindors, and probably Gen's dad too.

Nahuserfish would be a Slytherin, as would be Sejanus and Erondites the Elder. Dite I'm not sure about; probably Ravenclaw.

Aris--probz Gryffindor. Or Hufflepuff.

Heiro would be a kickbutt Ravenclaw prefect. Along with Stenides. *suddenly ships*

Does is make a difference that for Slytherin I left out the descriptions of "believes in being PURE BLOODED" I didn't think it matter much, but still...

Eddis - Gryffindor.
Irene - Slytherin. She and Gen can have matching seats in the common room!
Costis - Gryffindor, I think.
Aris - Gryffindor, too.
Heiro - Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff (finally I have company).
Stenides - As of right now, Hufflepuff, but I'd have to know more about him.
Relius - joins Irene and Gen in Slytherin.
Teleus - Gryffindor.
Sejanus - Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Slytherpuff.
Dite - Ravenclaw.
Nahuserfish - Slytherin.

Plus he has that whole straightforward approach to problems that I associate v. much w/Gryffindor. EG, "THEY THINK I LIED?" and, knocking over nobles and shooting doors and all that jazz.

Somehow, I have never thought about this before...
Gen: Looking at the attributes, I'd say that he could go anywhere (Yes, that's a slithering-out answer). Then, I guess, the hat would take into account where he'd WANT to go, like it did with Harry. But I don't know what he'd want. What an enigma is our Eugenides!

Eddis: Ehhhhh....??? Maybe Gryffindor? Bur maybe ravenclaw...

Attolia: Slytherin, I think. But she IS always wearing red and gold...

Costis: Definitely Hufflepuff. Definitely. He's VERY tolerant of the king, he's a workaholic, and he's extremely loyal, fair, and honorable, of course.

Aris: Same as Costis? Or maybe Gryffindor?

Heiro: I have no idea. Not Slytherin.

Stenides: Oh, I dunno about him either. Gryffindor?

Relius: Ravenclaw ... but he's cunning (slytherin) and loyal (hufflepuff)

Teleus: I'm tempted to put all the guards in Hufflepuff, but I think Gryffindor would work well for T too.

Dite: Ravenclaw, because of the wit and creativity. But he IS also loyal. Holy Goat. Everyone is so darn LOYAL.

Sejanus: Slytherin. He is all the values!

Nahuserfish!: NOT Hufflepuff, that's for sure. Slytherin, I guess, but I feel like everyone oily and slimy gets dumped in there.

What I wouldn't give to watch them all play quidditch...

Eddis - Hmm. I see her as a Hufflepuff. Which is good, because that poor house gets so shafted.

Irene - Slytherin of course

Lady Heiro - I kind of fantasize that she's a Slytherin who is extremely manipulative using her supposed shyness--but if she isn't, I'd go with Ravenclaw

Stenides - Gryffindor

Relius - Slytherin

Teleus - Gryffindor (most of the guards are, I would think. Aside from the corrupt ones).

The Erondite brothers - Slytherin and Hufflepuff

Ok,ok, so I took such a long time writing my comment that everyone had posted before I did, and IT SEEMS that everyone thinks that Costis should be in Gryffindor. ...!

Well, ok. You make a good argument. Sure. *grumbles and changes sides*

Aaand, everyone thinks that Gen=Slytherin. OK, yeah, sure. I agree, too. THAT LITTLE SNAKE! (I am so persuadeable, but I think you're all right.)
Interesting note: Doesn't he say something like "even though you're patronoi and he's okloi?" to Costis about Aris. Even though Gen doesn't seem to be class-ist, he sometimes assumes that other people are.
Elle, you have goooood ideas for discussion topics. (and not just about freeing the socks)

I refuse to believe that Eddis is anything but Hufflepuff. She just screams Hufflepuff to me. Loyal, hardworking, puts her people's interests first. If she were Gryffindor she'd be leading her troops into battle at the drop of a hat, and staking everything on her courage and her honor; whereas she's smart enough to delegate the leadership of her army to veteran soldiers, and also practical enough not to be swayed by grandiose gestures.

Gen is Slytherin with Ravenclaw tendencies, and Attolia is Ravenclaw forced into Slytherin tendencies. The Magus is just Ravenclaw, period.

Sophos? Either Hufflepuff or Gryffindor, but I'm thinking a mixture of both.

I'd have to say Gen's a mix between all the houses. Mostly Slytherin, though. But he's got the loyalty for Griffindor and the smarts for Ravenclaw. Hufflepuff...ehh, I don't know. I guess he's hardworking, but tolerance and fair play? Psssht. Please.

As for the others, I agree with pretty much everyone's opinions. One of the things I dislike (don't kill me!) about the HP books is that the author goes to great lengths to divide people into groups, as demonstrated by the four houses or by the whole good guys/bad guys thing that goes on the whole time. Everything seemed so archetypal. Which is fine, and MWT's got a few archetypes too, but she mixes and matches her characters so much more.

I think that's why we're having so much trouble pinning Gen down to just a single house. He's all of them. All of the characters are, to an extent, because real people don't fit into categories like this.

But yeah. If I had to pick, he'd be in Slytherin. Hands down.

WELL now, if I were JK Rowling and I were to answer this, I would say:

Important people are in Gryffindor, bad guys go into Slytherin, and everyone else can go wherever the hell they want.
