I found this on Greenwillow's blog page, sorta. It's a link to a live chat with MWT on Sunday, March 14th! (and I figured out how to post the link and everything!!)

FIELD TRIP!

I have already created a profile and posted my question. Maybe if we bombard her with enough reasonable-sounding queries about world-building and her writing style and whatnot, she'll be distracted and accidentally answer a question about the fifth and sixth books!

Haha, just kidding. We wish that would work.

Also, for people who don't have facebook accounts or don't want to sign in, here's the direct link:

Drashizu, thank you for posting one of the only questions in that entire thread that a writer might actually enjoy trying to answer.* I was beginning to despair on MWT's behalf.

* I say this because nearly all the other questions have nothing to do with MWT's books or her personal writing process, cannot easily be answered in less than 500 words, and have been also addressed many times elsewhere on the web by agents, editors, and other authors. If Megan chooses to respond to them with anything more than a link to Google, she is a lot more gracious than the askers deserve, IMO...

I noticed that. Luckily, I had a question up my sleeve that I'd been wondering for several weeks now. The asking of it ended up being a bit longer than I'd thought, but at least it's multi-faceted so she can pick and choose what to talk about. And hopefully not spoilerish enough that she'll answer every part of it with "Not telling"!

Apparently it's a site specifically for aspiring writers, but I agree. With the chance to ask MWT anything do you really want to go for her opinion on self-publishing?

Well, right, and so some questions about craft and industry would be understandable -- but you'd hope they'd at least take into account who she is and what she writes, instead of asking her about stuff like poetry and (as you mentioned) self-publishing? That's what gets me.

Ah, well. It's not my site. Or my chat. :)

So - is she going to spend the whole chat answering every question with "Not telling!"?

Haha I think that's a good idea! Unfortunately I've already used my email address on a profile. But if someone else wanted to be, say, Ornon or Teleus or Eddis...

Just sayin'. 0:-)

I think the posts right now are just a warmup but I'm as lost as anyone to say how an actual *chat* will take place. But if there's an instant message feature, there might be a chatroom too.

Man, some of the questions posted on that thread are, frankly, embarassing. :(
Well, more chance she'll answer mine! Bwahaha. Only I've snuck about a hundred into my post... :( Sorry, Megan.

We should head over there tomorrow and pump her for information ask our questions. I'm going to go ahead and set up a profile, I guess. Not sure how the live chat thingie will work.

Inkpop

And it looks like the whole purpose of the site is to assist young authors with the publishing field. It's a harpercollins site. Here's what it says:

inkpop is the new voice in teen publishing.

You’ve heard the horror stories. When they were just getting started, even some of the world’s most successful authors weren’t immune to the pains of getting published. Navigating the traditional publishing system can be like shooting in the dark. The manuscript submission process is often a lengthy, intimidating uphill battle, and there’s no guarantee that publishers will actually read your work.

inkpop changes the old way of doing things.

By asking, “What does the community think?” inkpop marks a new approach to identifying and developing talent. inkpop is an online network that connects up-and-coming authors with talent spotters and publishing professionals in the teen market. Writers are invited to post their books, short stories, essays, and poetry for the whole world to see. inkpop members identify and rank their favorite works and post their feedback and constructive criticism.
