I know there is at least a 70% chance you guys have done this already. If so, tell me and I'll remove the post or do something.
1. You rewrite song lyrics so they relate to the books, like so:
Lets get down to business to defeat the MEDES*
(Teleus sings this to the Guard daily)
or
Hmm, what is that mysterious ticking noise? It sounds kind of...catchy
Gen, Gen, Eugenides...**

2. You drove 20 miles over the speed limit to the bookstore to get your copy of A Conspiracy of Kings
3. When you finally got a hold of your copy, you kissed the cover, scaring any nearby person.
4. You spend your free time thinking about how Attolia and Gen spend their time alone together. You assure yourself that you are not a dirty minded person, and this was forced upon you by Megan Whalen Turner, since she refuses to write it herself. You really have no choice in the matter. (I actually like that Megan does this, but I can't deny that deep down, I wish she did write a scene more than a few sentences where they were alone with no attendants or anybody)
5. You dream of marrying Costis, and you plan a very detailed wedding. You would dream of marry Gen or Sophos, but you're afraid to even think about what Attolia and Eddis might do to you.
6. You have weekly dreams about Eugenides.
7. After reading the books, you looked up on the internet how to pick locks and tried it for yourself. (Just it case you're wondering, it's harder than Gen says it is.)
8. When anyone points out a flaw in the books, you react like this: WHAT THE F*** ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT! THESE BOOKS ARE PERFECT! GO JUMP OFF A CLIFF!
9. You hate lending your books to people, simply because you don't like being separated from them.
10. Ironically, you never have the books, because you always lend them to people in an effort to make everyone you know become obsessed with them.
11. You check this Sounis Livejournal community everyday so you can have your daily Gen fix. Sort of like a drug.
12. Not only do you check Sounis every day, but you also go back to previous posts and read discussions that took place eons ago.
13. Upon first discovering the series, you had to flip over at least one of the books over right after finishing it for the first time and immediately started rereading it. And then you did it again. (For me it was The King of Attolia, how about you?)

Your roommates can quote the books, not because they've read them as many times as you, but because they've heard you quote them so often. ("I don't think I've heard you say that many words in a row. You--" "--sounded almost articulate. WE KNOW.")
When reading the books aloud to your friends and a friend who hasn't yet read the series happens to overhear a bit, they comment that they're impressed that you already know the tone of voice that the dialogue is supposed to be in even when it only tells what tone it was in after the dialogue. (Too tired to make this more easily understandable. I have faith in your skills of understanding, sounisians.)
Your copies are marked, cross-referenced, and even have some illustrations. (This makes it so that your sister, who lives a few-hour-drive away, can't just check the books out from the library when you [finally] get her to read them--she has to have the marked copies. But you allow her to take your precious books away because she NEEDS to read them.)
If you did not already have the ability to raise only one eyebrow, you have taught yourself how to do it.

Date: 4/11/10 06:39 pm (UTC)4. Did you know that Megan has been heard to say that she wrote out the entire wedding night scene then didn't put it in the book? There has been talk about house-breaking, bribing small children, etc.

WHAT?!?!!??!?!?!?!!? *fumes with anger* I bet she's lying just to make us suffer. "has been heard to say" is very...ambiguous.
Truth be told, I like that she didn't put it in the book, but maybe she'll add it as a short story in the last book? Or, in the distant future, when special anniversary editions are released... (Ok, that's very unlikely, but why not?)
ridiculously random thought, but I need to say it because I keep on forgetting to ask: Wasn't A Conspiracy of Kings supposed to have a map in it?

Way too obsessed? What? There's no such thing!
Date: 4/12/10 12:58 am (UTC)You stared happily at #6 on the New York Times bestselling children's book list for about five minutes this morning even though you'd already seen it posted here.
There are about a bazillion words that make you think of the books whenever you hear them, and you can pretty much connect ANYTHING if it doesn't already. Try me!
If you have to choose between colors, you always go for yellow to be like Gen.
You snickered happily to yourself when your mom said "Alrighty dighty!" because it sounds like Dite.
You practice writing with your left/right hand -- whichever one you don't normally use.
You put a count-down to ACoK in your homework planner and calendar. Come to that, ALL YOUR PAPERS have qt doodles on them.
You plan in depth what to wear to meet MWT, but you can't decide which country's colors to dress in. Erm, and when you put on socks, you often pick colors that represent certain characters to you. ("Hm... the Magus ... Green. And black with reindeer.")
Me too with the dreams! And the rewriting songs!
Re: Way too obsessed? What? There's no such thing!
Date: 4/12/10 02:58 am (UTC)You look at nearly eveyone you see and compare them to how you think the characters look almost without realizing it.... and no, that is not creepy at all!

Date: 4/12/10 02:36 am (UTC)How about these:
You amuse yourself by asking what certain characters would do in various situations, either hypothetical or actual. (Unfortunately, a lot of the answers tend to be stealing or violence, which might not work out.)
Whenever someone makes a) a really interesting point or b) a critique about the books, you spend the rest of the day thinking about it, including rereading relevant passages.
Also, I'm listening to the book on CD of The Queen of Attolia (recorded by Jeff Woodman) for the very first time. I listen to it while I'm driving to school, and I practically drove into the curb the first time Attolia spoke. I had no idea she'd be so creepy to listen to! (I nearly fast-forwarded through a certain scene, but I forced myself to listen. I did NOT cry, thank you very much, though it's a darn good thing that I was on a straight stretch of road with little traffic, because I think I was being a little erratic in my driving habits.)
Thanks for getting us going on these--they're lots of fun!

Okay! Okay! I confess! Whenever I hear the opening of Ice Queen by Within Temptation, which goes like this...
When leaves have fallen
And skies turned into grey.
The night keeps on closing in on the day
A nightingale sings his song of farewell
You better hide for her freezing hell
On cold wings she's coming
You better keep moving
For warmth, you'll be longing
Come on just feel it
Don't you see it
You better believe it.
...I have my own version running through my head...
When thieves have fallen
And skies turn to grey.
The night keeps on closing in on the day
A nightingale sings his song of farewell
You'd better hide from her freezing hell
On cold wings she's coming
You better keep moving
Forward, if you love your hand, Gen
Come on just feel it
Don't you see it
You better believe it.
It matches the music and everything. It's awesome!

Date: 4/12/10 11:19 pm (UTC)You have at least one pet/game avatar named Gen?
Immediately after reading the books (no matter how many times you've read them before) you go back and reread your favorite passages (you also have these page numbers memorized).
You started crying after reading ACoK when you realized that it may be another four years before the next one comes out (sob).

Date: 4/12/10 11:53 pm (UTC)Upon discovering this community, you sighed happily, and a particular tension left your shoulders, a tension you didn't even know was there until it departed.
You laughed at all of the items listed above, knowing what each of them meant without anyone having to explain them to you.
You find yourself occasionally indulging in a bout of sorrow that is specifically focused on Gen's hand, regardless of how well its loss ended up serving the overall plot, let alone the purposes of the willfully mysterious gods in Gen's world.
You envision a swordfight between Gen and Nahuseresh just to make yourself feel better. Humiliating defeat for N, natch, also a cruel death because why not? Attolia watches with a small smile on her face, applauding with just a few claps at the end. (Sophos is less subtle, pumping his fist in the air.)

Date: 4/13/10 01:02 am (UTC)How about, whenever you do something clumsy or don't notice something obvious you think dejectedly "Eugenides wouldn't have done that."
You are seriously considering naming your future children Eugenides, Sophos, and Eddis. (Do you think they would kill me for that?)
You have two copies of all the books and consider collecting more.

Date: 6/23/10 02:25 pm (UTC)...Your best friend (who hasn't even read the books) wants to date Gen.
...you wonder how things would work out if the genders were reversed in the Queen of Attolia...
...and you wrote a story more or less based on that concept. (Okay, so the king didn't know the thief was a girl -much less the princess of a neighboring kingdom- and he tortured her instead of cutting her hand off and she didn't know he was a king and a marriage was arranged between them later, which didn't work out because she was already in love with his captain of the guard, but you get the picture)
