When Sounis and Gen sneak out at night after Sounis pushes Gen down, and they talk and everything is okay because there are no awkward, official pretenses. And then Gen tells about when he knew he loved Irene XD Best. Part. Ever.
Oooo, it's so hard to pick! I'd have to say though that my favorite moment was the part where Gen shows up in Sophos' room and talks about how Irene and he have matching knives and guns in their bedposts because that's when Gen was shown again as his humorous self and it was one of the most funny sections of the book.
My very, very, very close second favorites would be when Gen, Irene, Sophos and Helen are talking on the couches and Irene "shyly" touches Gen's cheek before sending him back to his couch ~ because you just have to love any moment between Gen and Irene ~ and the final chapters when Eddis talks about how the Gods are "not dreams" to Gen and that "the veil for him is always thin" (sorry if the quotes are inaccurate, I don't have the book with me).
Mine is where Sophos pushes Gen down, with a roll in his mouth. He's been made a fool of and kept at arm's length, and he NEEDS his old Gen back so he loses it and acts like a kid. Not just pushing, but swinging his leg behind first to make sure his push is most effective. <3
'Dirnes, I don't want your cake' I did, actually, I wanted it a lot. Sophos tripping Gen up, then going out to the bar =D Gen and Irene <3 And, and, and . . . EVERYTHING. Except when Sophos is being all sad or beaten up because it makes me too sad. Yes. Right.
I did rather enjoy the part where Sophos knocks Gen flat on his backside... and the time when he shoots Akretenesh. But I think my fav is going to have to be the scene back in Attolia. "You SHOT the ambassador!?!?!?" "You gave me the gun!" "I didn't mean for you to shoot an ambassador with it!" "Oh how our carefully laid plans go astray." "You shut up." LOL.
My poor brother, I had to snatch the book away from him so I could decide on a part. He's sitting here like "What???" and I'm like "Don't read over my shoulder, it'll spoil the end" and he's like "Well, you basically just gave it away that SOMETHING funny happens." As I sit here loling at Sophos. Finish quickly mon frere so we can lol together!
Ohhh, this is so difficult. It's almost like choosing what child you like best, because, honestly, it's not that I like one more than the other. All my favorites touch me in different ways.
That said, I think I have to go for when Sophos stuffs the bread in his mouth, drops his practice sword, trips up Gen and shoves him. And the following scenes.
Before that I was so worried about Gen and how he was acting and reading that was such a release. I knew then everything was going to be okay. And I think it was the first scene in the book that I had to stop at and read about twenty times before I could continue.
Oh, and one more reason. I have three boys myself, and as I read this I could see my own kids resolving an "issue" like this. It's such a boy response to emotional turmoil. It made me wonder if MWT drew this scene from her own experience with having three boys.
Can I choose, like a whole section? Not at all original, since everyone else loves this part too, but my favorite section starts with the sparring with the Mede through Sophos pushing Gen through going out to the bar together... that whole section is basically made of awesome.
You know, when I read all these great lines, and the one zumie quotes below, I don't get why some people find Sophos dull. He is so funny, maybe the funniest character in all the books.

"Couldn't," Gen said coolly. "I needed you on the edge, looking slightly sick."
