And no, not the country on the little peninsula, US! It's been 17 delightful years since this site was created and, boy, has it been a long-lived and welcoming place.

You all probably already know how I feel about [livejournal.com profile] sounis and you all. Such friendly, smart people! Who love the same books!

There are other Queen's Thief places to visit, including MWT's Tumblr and the Geninsula on Discord, but my heart always comes back to you, [livejournal.com profile] sounis. And now we have a brand new book to read!

Happy Birthday!

Don't forget to add your email to the list we're creating of Sounis members. Just in case something happens to Livejournal or our site. Just message me here on LJ or email me at checkers65477 AT yahoo.com. Only [livejournal.com profile] ninedaysaqueen and I will hang onto the list so no worries about security.

Our little [livejournal.com profile] sounis community is all grown up. 15 years old, can you believe it?? We're old enough to act surly and roll our eyes, tear up our army enrollment papers, and go searching for Hamaithes' Gift.

This community formed just before King of Attolia was published and has remained active pretty steadily over the years. With the publication of the last book in the series, this may be sort of a last hurrah for us, although I think we'll be talking about RotT for quite awhile yet.

As a tribute to [livejournal.com profile] sounis, I thought there'd be no better words than what Megan said in the virtual author visit last week. Here's a transcript from the part of her talk that touched on the dedication in RotT.

I've been an official part of this fandom since 2009 (I lurked for a while before that), and more good things have come of it than I could ever have imagined. (Thank you, MWT.)

I hope [livejournal.com profile] an_english_girl doesn't mind me saying this, but her friendship is one of those good things. We've become transatlantic pen-pals with a tradition of exchanging fan fics on birthdays and gifts at Christmas. :) This year she gifted me (in addition to our usual trade of reading material) bee earrings, and I sent her goat socks! So fun.

Anyway, just wanted to give Sounis a shout-out, and thank you all for the conversation, kindness, humor, and general goodness you've generated via mutual love of books! The QT fandom is really special.

In keeping with the end-of-year theme, I've copied this questionnaire from Tumblr, in case anyone wants to share some of their bookish highlights for 2019! Feel free to pick and choose, or answer all of them!

Happy new year, Sounis! May your book collection increase (and with it your shelving space) in the new decade!

Aw, our little Sounis corner of the world is 14 years old! Let's celebrate by barking the Happy Birthday song like sheepdogs! It's sure to annoy Ornon.

Happy Birthday Suz
happy birthday pictures

It seem like forever ago that Rowana and Eddis got together and dreamed up a place to talk about our favorite books. As the Queen's Thief series grew, [livejournal.com profile] sounis turned into a fun place full of smart, kind readers from all over the world, and marked the beginning of some life-long friendships, both online and in real life.

Raise your glass of unwatered wine and repeat after me, "Happy Birthday, Sounis, and many, many more to come!"

(Disclaimer: these aren't actual Sheepdogs. They are, however, shepherd dogs who would like to herd Ornon's sheep. If only he had any, alas. Anyway, it's harder than you'd think to find a gif of a sheepdog in a birthday hat.)

Our Livejournal baby is a teenager! And hopefully not a complaining, eye-rolling, smart aleck teen like Gen was.

Happy 13th birthday, Sounis! It's been a wonderful, fantastic 13 years--so far--spreading the QT love and discussing with all you crazy fans. Let's celebrate with all the Goatfoots out there.

Ornon's sheep are wishing Sounis a Happy 12th Birthday!!!

Who would have thought that this community would still be around twelve years
after this epic post?

In honor of [livejournal.com profile] sounis 's birthday tell us, people, what do you want to see in the next, final book? Nothing is too over-the-top, crazy, or fan-service-ish. Tell us your ideas, reprobates! What do you hope happens?
[identity profile] checkers65477.livejournal.com

[livejournal.com profile] sounis is 11 years old, and Ornon's sheep are dancing!

Eleven years ago today Queen [livejournal.com profile] rowana and the elusive [livejournal.com profile] eddis started up this wonderful community, while we were waiting very impatiently for Harper Collins to finish knitting The King of Attolia. So much has happened over the past 11 years. We've grown up and grown older while getting to know other QT fans around the world who love Megan's books and want to share questions, answers, and insanity with others.

Sounis members have come and gone over the years. Some of us have been around since the beginning, and others are brand new. What has never changed is that this online community welcomes everyone. We're the nicest fan community out there!

So, whether you're a oldie or a newbie, it's time for introductions! Leave a comment and tell us

  1. How long you've been a [livejournal.com profile] sounis member

  2. A little about yourself, including where you live (country, continent, city, anything is fine)

  3. How you found Megan's books

  4. Which book is your favorite

  5. Why you love the books with the heat of 1000 suns

  6. Something you *hope* happens in Thick As Thieves

Or, anything you want to share. C'mon folks! It's been quiet around here for too long. Let's hear from you. Happy Birthday to us!

The lovely and always witty [livejournal.com profile] ninedaysaqueen has agreed to help moderate [livejournal.com profile] sounis.  Thanks, Lady Jane, for helping get us all whipped up into a frenzy as we count down towards Thick as Thieves.

I was in Barnes and Noble looking at YA books and these covers just seemed so appropriate, like a sign from the gods, whom we do not want to offend. So, now for mods you all have:

Hi guys. I know I haven't been around much but I do lurk. Anyway, my nephew is here and wondered why we are named Sounis instead of, say, Attolia, or Eddis. (He's a fan that I created!) But I couldn't tell him because I'm pretty sure someone told me once, but I have forgotten.

Forgive my writing, ugh.

Anyway, anyone remember?

HAPPY 8th BIRTHDAY, SOUNIS!

Eight years ago this week Queen rowana and the elusive eddis decided to start up a new community dedicated to the Attolia books. Since then we've discussed nearly every aspect of Megan's books, celebrated the publication of The King of Attolia and A Conspiracy of Kings, recommended other well-loved books, created reams of fanart, and generated not nearly enough crack.

Let us celebrate!  With the recent announcement that Megan is now working on not Book 5 but Book 6 (yes, this was shared in notes from a recent meetup!  Where have you been, anyway?) it is Time to Speculate.

What's going to happen to our dear Gen, Irene, Sophos, Helen, et al?  Is Gen really ill?  Are there royal offspring in the making?  Will Attolia ever catch "Sandy"?  Where in heck/afterlife is poor Costis?  Will the Medes win the day?  Is someone actually going to offend the gods, eventually?  Where would Gen keep a war elephant, anyway?  No detail is too small for comment, crack-filled or in earnest.

What's going to happen, people??
[identity profile] checkers65477.livejournal.com
This is a little late, but...

Happy Birthday, Sounis!

[livejournal.com profile] sounis is 6 years old with 740 members!  Let us speculate in a celebratory way.

Sounis has 700 members!  Woohoo.

To celebrate, how about you introduce yourself if you haven't done so yet?  Maybe a short comment about yourself, how you found the books, which is your favorite, etc.  Anything you want.  Those who have been around awhile, feel free to re-introduce yourselves, if you'd like to.

Or,

HAPPY 5th BIRTHDAY, SOUNIS!

In November 2005, while waiting very impatiently for the publication of The King of Attolia, some people got together and started a fansite/discussion group.  Five years later, [livejournal.com profile] sounis is going strong with over 650 members, nearly 1,600 journal entries, and a brand-new book to squee over.

In celebration, let's do a little bonding.  What has [livejournal.com profile] sounis done for you?  Why did you join, what have you enjoyed, what has it meant to you?

Then we'll all sit around, hold hands, and sing Kumbaya.  Maybe wave our lighters and cell phones.  :)
[identity profile] checkers65477.livejournal.com
Sounis has 1,500 journal entries.  Hooray!

What are your favorite posts?

Good God, are we a chatty bunch!

600!

Sounis has 600 members!

To celebrate, how about a question?

What is your absolute favorite part of A Conspiracy of Kings?
[identity profile] checkers65477.livejournal.com
[livejournal.com profile] sounis is four years old and has 500 members! (ok, 499 but close enough.)

Four years ago Queen [livejournal.com profile] rowana and the elusive [livejournal.com profile] eddis decided to start up a new community dedicated to the Attolia books. Since then we've discussed nearly every aspect of Megan's books, celebrated the publication of The King of Attolia, recommended other well-loved books, created lots of fanart, and generated not nearly enough crack.

To mark the occasion, let's get to know everyone a little better. Whether you're a shy lurker, could simply never think of something to say, have only commented a few times, or post in every thread and never leave Chatzy, introduce, (or re-introduce) yourself in a comment. You can talk about anything - where you found the books, why you like them, how you found [livejournal.com profile] sounis , who your favorite character is and why, or what you think will happen in A Conspiracy of Kings.

Let the Wild Rumpus (and the many comments into my inbox) begin!

Sounis has 400 members!
[identity profile] rowana.livejournal.com
Sometime this week around three years ago, a few of us got tired of trying to have the discussions that Megan's books demand on the allscifi message board, and migrated over to livejournal land. Sounis soon exploded into a community of thoughtful and enthusiastic people who always have something interesting to say, and with a real talent for generating crack. The crack continues, but so do the questions and the discussion on everything from whether Sam Neill or Alan Rickman would be better as the Magus to where on earth Sophos has gotten to.

What with the recent announcement of the fourth book in the hopefully-not-too-distant future, it seems appropriate to bring out an old discussion topic: what's going to happen next?! Whether you still think that Nahusaresh is Sophos in disguise, stand firm that Gen's going to end up ruling the world, (or his little part of it at least), or have an entirely new theory, let us know what you think.

And here's to another year. :)

Sounis has been growing steadily over the past year, and at such a rate that we hit the maximum number of markers allowed on our guest map recently.

Checkers, my tireless fellow Supermod, began the search for a new map. Our search ended here:

The Official New Sounis Guestmap

The new map should allow us more markers. Go and put a marker up, whether you posted on the old map or not, and let Megan see how many fans she has across the world!

To add your location: 1. Click on the guestmap link. 2. Zoom in on your location. 3. Sign your name, choose your icon, add a message. 4. Click "place".

The new map can also be reached from The Sounis profile page under the big flashing button that says 'click here - view my guestmap'. The old map will still be available from a link on the profile page if anyone wants to check their old message before placing a marker on the new map.
