Hooray!

I'll just admit I'm dumb and ask, what exactly is this award for, and what does it mean, beyond "hey we think these books are great"? Or is that all it means?

Deserved the reward but we can't fault them for lack of taste since at least it got an honor.

An award MWT obviously deserved ;) Forgive my shameless bragging (on MWT's account, of course xD), but I'm soooo happy for her!!!

A couple of thoughts on this. The editor-in-chief of The Horn Book is Roger Sutton. In the blog on morality (the link is in another post on Sounis), MWT said in a comment to her formal remarks that she had gone round and round with Roger Sutton "trying to illuminate the difference, if there is one, between telling the reader what to think about something and telling the reader something you'd like them to think about." Interesting that she had a history with him on the subject, and interesting that she must feel a bit vindicated in her arguments having won an award from him.

Also, I've read When you Reach Me, and I must say that although it is very clever, lean, and skillfully structured, it's not nearly the story KoA is. I haven't read The Dreamer, though.

Ooops. I meant CoK (not KoA). Dang. Why can't LJ spell-check my brain?

Hmmm. I didn't mean to imply that they had argued. I thought that her comments indicated they had a discussion, and that they must have differed somewhat in their positions (thus, "going around and around" and wishing that she had MT Anderson on hand to help). That is all.
