Lately, I've been seeing Gen everywhere:
-In my brother's video game, Prince of Persia (the main character was a thief! And he had a little metal thing on one of his hands, even if it was the wrong one.)
-In the musical my school is putting on this year, West Side Story (actually, mostly this was just me being mad at Tony and Maria because their relationship wasn't identical to Gen and Attolia's in every way possible.)
-In that survival show on Discovery Channel (there were elephants!)
Does this happen  to you? Or am I just crazy?

THERE WERE ELEPHANTS.
Every single time anyone mentions elephants my little brother looks at me and says, 'and all he could think was, 'how can I steal one of those?''.

And yes, it happens to me ALL the time.

You got your brother into QT? Exciting! That must be great to have a family member to share quotes with all the time.

My entire family is into Queens Thief! (Except for the baby and my mum. (But my mum has read them))
It IS great.

Both. But don't worry. We're all crazy like that. I mean, I can't watch Peter Pan anymore because Captain Hook makes me want the fifth book so bad.

omg you too? Thank goodness, can you image how confused captain hook would be if he met Gen?

YOU'RE A THIEF AND YOU HAVE...A HOOK?!

I know, right? And the way Peter Pan and the Lost Boys all tease Hook about it is just... dreadful. Like Sejanus teasing Gen.

Mmmmmmm, crazy, definitely crazy. Wouldn't you say, fellow reprobates?
*nods*

(we totally don't dream about him either)

The only dream I can remember fully was something to do with frozen milk and Costis trying to do something with it for Gen. ?

ahaa!
I had a very creepy dream where I was sort of standing on the ceiling, watching the chop scene.

Oooh, that IS creepy.
I was reading KoA last night, and I dreamt of Eugenides ALL NIGHT. I dreamt of the scene going up the steps after he kidnapped Attolia in QoA, except Attolia was Katsa. And it was all very weird.

Yeah! Like the one I didn't have in which Gen was freezing meat. And Attolia and Relius were critiquing modern art.

Ahh... Yeah... All the time. Trust me, you're not crazy.

I see sheep, I think of Gen. I loose a glove, I think of Gen. I see an orange tree, I think of Gen and Irene. Even the expression poor such and such makes me think of... Well, you probably know that one.

So far, we think the condition is a result of a Megan Whalen Turner overdoes. The only cure is to stop thinking about Gen and QT altogether. You can see why we've had no successful recovers so far.

Completely. I think my family and friends have given up wondering when I do stuff like that. They just assume it's "those books she reads." Haha.

Yes, you are crazy, but I wouldn't worry about it. You are in the midst of an obsession. It took me near a year before I stopped thinking of these books full time - please don't think badly of me though. To be honest, it's actually kind of a relief. A full, huge obsession can be very tiring. I can concentrate on normal, everyday things now.

I know, right? If it makes you feel better, I still haven't really quite cured the reading stump Queen's Thief created for me. It seems I keep on comparing everything I read to Queen's Thief, and it just doesn't live up to it. I think I'm going to give up soon and just start rereading Diana Wynne Jones.

Total yes to the reading stump! I just read Wings, and aside from the other issues I had with the book, the one guy everybody in the world thought was hot did absolutely nothing for me. I kept thinking "Gen is so much better." And the books aren't even anything like each other! Wings is about faeries! Last year, one of my professors told me that Lord Peter Wimsey ruined her for real men, and now I'm wondering if I'm having some sort of similar Gen syndrome, except with not-real men.

On a more positive note, I've been craving MWTs walnut pesto lately. Shall probably give in this weekend and whip some up.

I'm the other way around, Eugenides ruined me for real men. I must admit there are plenty of literary guys that I still am madly in love with, even with Eugenides (Mr. Knightly is the first one that comes to mind.)

Mr. Knightly as played by Jeremy Northam? I absolutely agree. I guess I can't say I'm disenchanted with all fictional men, but I've lost what little tolerance I used to have for the mediocre (or less than) ones.

I think Gen in real life would drive me raving mad.

I'm actually a Johnny Lee Miller fan. I loved, loved, LOVED him as Mr. Knightly.

Yes, Gen would drive me mad in real life. I'm pretty sure I would end up disliking him actually, unless I got to know him real well. The funny thing is I prefer guys like Gen in books because I know they have a good heart on the inside, but if I actually met a guy as obnoxious as he his, I'd hate him.

Emperor's New Groove. For some reason, Kuzco just reminds me so much of younger, brattier, light-hearted Gen (the stylish clothes, maybe?). And Pacha is totes Costis in twenty years.

you knw what i was watching that yesterday and he *does* remind me of Gen!

It's like... if Gen never matured, I imagine he'd act like that.

And I imagine it's how the Attolians see him.

YES! Craziness! Yeah!

And when I'm stressed out or mad, I try to remember scenes, acting out the dialog in my head (or sometimes not in my head...). It ... helps. :)
