costuming?

Hello, this is my first post to the group!

I have been considering dressing as Irene sometime (not sure exactly when, as I have far too many costumes on my wish list right now). I'm going to make her red peplos from the end of "The Thief," although I may take some liberties with the design, as I'm fond of neither velvet nor embroidery (and it says "like a peplos," not "a peplos," so I have a fair bit of freedom there too ... this is why I like costuming from books).

Has anyone else here done any Queen's Thief costuming?

I dressed up as Irene for Halloween a few years ago. I have no skills whatsoever, so I kind of improvised, haha. I basically used an old fake red velvet cape I had lying around (why did I have that lying around? no clue) and other odds and ends. I'll see if I can try and find a picture . . .

Um, somehow I doubt that Attolia's clothes were that shiny? Just look at it this way, your costume can't be worse than mine. It was fun, though. XD

Um...I made some dolls for Megan and I've been meaning to make the headband thing for [livejournal.com profile] rowana for ages and still haven't got round to it.

I'd love to see pictures of your costume when it's done.

A few years ago I went to my school's halloween party as Eddis, and my friend CaptainsThief was Gen. Here's the post:

And here are bigger pics, since the other ones don't appear to be enlargable.

Hmm. I've been thinking about doing a crocheted Irene doll, just for kicks (and because I've run out of Doctor Who characters) but I've been avoiding thinking about her dress on purpose. I'd love to see pictures in a month or to...since I think you'll get your dress done long before I do.

I always imagine her looking something like a Caryatid, although given the period, you might be able to get away with something more Byzantine. http://www.costumes.org/history/100pages/timelinepages/byzantium1.htm. I love the Costumer's Manifesto so very much)

Also, your icon - is that Inara in the Tardis?
