Obligatory Post of Introduction
Aug. 30th, 2006 11:45 pmSo...I introduced myself over in the conspiracy room (which you could find, if you were willing to weed through a long conversation about hating Troy Denning), but I thought I should be polite and do a real post too.
So...they call me Jade, I delurked here pretty quickly (the MWT dangling was kinda hard to ignore), and The Queen of Attolia is my favorite book in the whole world. I have lots of other books I love, sure (Gone With the Wind, Nightwatch, anything LOTR, The Once and Future King, etc.), but when people ask, I say QoA is my favorite. (Then I have to describe it, which is really hard, because they've inevitably never heard of it...)
Um...I read QoA first, then Thief, just a random fact...
and even more randomly, I applied to the University of Chicago, and one of the things I had to write about was my favorite book. So I said, "I surprise people by naming The Queen of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner, which is the sequel to a Newberry Honor book that I happened to pick up in the school library four years ago. It is a jewel of a novel that very much resembles something I would want to write: a character study wrapped up in political intrigue involving kings and queen with just enough romance and magic to appeal to a wide variety of readers."
Now, guess who went to Chicago? (Not me. I went elsewhere, because elsewhere offered me more money. ^_^)
So, yeah, I write fanfiction (but not for this series--it's too hard) and I have some original things that kinda got squashed underneath an epic my friends and I were writing...but maybe now that we're apart my poor muse will come back to me. And...yeah, I think that's about it, for now.
Edit: I bring news of the doomfic!
Update #1: We've got three scenes planned for the first "installment" as it were, one of which is written. Other than that, we've introduced a completely new character, the magus has bought the bear, and Gen has not yet appeared.
...We're on a roll.

Date: 8/31/06 12:51 pm (UTC)Welcome to the...court? (sounds too formal)Circus? (too true) Ummm... madhouse? (too overly direct)...community of reprobates? (Megan's phrasing)
I feel a bit guilty for not introducing myself properly. I just turned up in the Conspiracy Room and talked with my many mouths.
:DDDDDDDDDDDDD emerald ;)
p.s DOES ANYONE HAVE IDEAS FOR JADE'S NICKNAME?TITLE? I'm thinking but nothing amazing comes to mind...

Date: 8/31/06 10:09 pm (UTC)My friends and I wrote an epic as well. Under our desks in English lessons. :D I'm sure yours had far more thought put into it.
Out of curiosity, which fandoms do you write fanfiction for?

Date: 8/31/06 11:38 pm (UTC)we're not *that* reprobate-ic (is that a word? how would you adjectivize reprobate?).
P.S. I saw something involving lightsabers and wrath...except I'm always halfway to incurring wrath, not sending it out.

Date: 8/31/06 11:41 pm (UTC)Hee hee. I had a very long Artemis Fowl fic that I had an ending for, just not everything from the point I stopped to the ending. I used to write Harry Potter, but I kept falling into the Mary Sue cliche, and right now the only thing I want to write for that one is a Draco/Ginny "Beauty and the Beast" retelling (only darker than the Disney version). But the muse has really seized me for a certain TV show that shall remain nameless (Gran-Gran/Magus forever!) to save some people some embarrassment. My fanfiction.net account is just Jade Sabre.
wow, that answer was a lot longer than what you probably wanted. ^_^ I could be an official of babbling.

Date: 8/31/06 11:48 pm (UTC)Ha ha ha...ha. 8 elements. 1 crazy god who's demoted all the other gods and aiming to bring everything into chaos. 7 people--a homicidal maniac with emotional issues, a sorrowful druidess with magic issues, a dumb slut sorceress with self-image issues, a tortured healer with trust issues, a tranquil paladin with no issues, a cocky sheikh-type with ego issues, and the demigod (with God-knows-what issues) who's in charge of the operation--and one wolf have to retrieve the elemental talismans in order to have enough power to stop the crazy god.
Angst, humor, strife, violence, fluff, everlasting love, and near-chaos ensue.
We didn't have a real good plan--it's taken us two years to develop the characters to the (relatively) stable point (and character arc) they're at now, but what we've developed doesn't sync with all the early stuff we wrote, so it's all got to be rewritten. And that's kinda where we're stuck.
(are you sorry you asked? :-b)

Date: 9/1/06 10:59 pm (UTC)Does the bear actually have to be in the same town as the lynch mob? I was thinking the lynch mob would just happen. Now, it could happen, and keep on happening, until it got all the way to the capital...at which point Gen would probably send Costis to deal with it. And then Costis would have to stop making out with Agape to deal with the problem, and then discover it was a mob, and then be really unhappy.
*sighs* Costis torture is just too easy.
