Another Gen/Irene song? Opinions?

Erm...yes, I'll shyly wave hello, again. I barely ever get onto LJ, but seems like I might have to, just because of two communities!!!

I'm quite new to this (community and LJ) - do tell me if I'm breaking any ettiquetes or like!

Well, I've just finished read The King of Attolia and I've had this one song just stuck in my mind since I read The Queen of Attolia.

It's to do with the scene where Eugenides makes the offer to Irene on the boat whether she'd rather drown or marry him and the song is Guilty Pleasure by Cobra Starship  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycdXPgMAqg4. True, the style and genre don't fit with the book, but it's the feeling of frustration I get from the song that makes me think that it REALLY fits Gen right there. I mean, we know that he's a bit of a hothead, but he can keep his emotions well under control. This, I always imagine, is somewhat what he must've been feeling during this whole scene. My comments are underlined and the bits crossed out are irrelevant. Slight language, by the way, which I've asteriked!

(This part reminds me of the firmness that Gen told Irene the terms, plus, wasn't Gen a bit of a "guilty pleasure" for Irene? She seemed to take some perverse pleasure in "torturing" him )

(his frustration at her stolid emotions)

(Acting and being all tough, sacrificing her emotions, so that she could make it as Attolia's queen)

(A gibe at her - what if the roles were reversed, like they are now?)

(Him telling her she's not so heartless and he knows it)

(Him kidnapping you for Eddis)

(His frustration at what she's done to him)

what the papers gotta say about me

(We ALL know about Gen's image, especially in Attolia [clearer at the beginning of KoA])

(He just wants this to finish)

He's partially afraid of what she's going to say)

(He's kidnapping her, sheesh! A vent of anger, maybe?)
So cynical?
Poor baby
(a gibe of sorts at her 'heartless' self)

(He's become rather tough too [a reference to the hand])

(What he'd say to her about the barons of Attolia)
I'm just playin'
(A glimpse of the 'old' Gen)

And maybe someday I'll believe
that we are all a part of some bigger plan
(Reference to the gods)

If the world is ending, I'm throwing the party

This is a great song. From your break down of the lyrics, I can see how it applies well to QoA.
