I'm new to this community so I hope I'm not pushing seniority by posting but, I just watched Disney's 'Tangled' - and I must ask - can anyone else see the resemblance?

One of the main characters is a Thief named 'Eugen-e', who robs the kingdom and has a feud with a horse!!

How funny is that?!

I haven't seen Tangled myself, but I recall there was some discussion and some pretty funny comments if you want to check the archives. :)

So you weren't the first, but you won't be the last either, I'm sure. The reason it keeps coming up is because it's true.

Welcome!

The first time I saw it (the weekend it opened) I came home and went straight to my computer to see if anyone else here had posted anything. It's strange how many similarities there are.

And Welcome!

Welcome! We don't mind ongoing discussions on topics that have come up before. In fact, it may be accurate to say we LOVE to rehash topics, run them into the ground, and then dissect them with sharp implements, so to speak. It is Our Way. And, anyone is welcome to post!

You're reading Chime now!!! I just picked up a copy at the library today but I'm going to save it for the 48 hour book challenge next weekend. (I've waited this long already.) Are you enjoying it?

I am. I'm only 50 pages into it and so far it's creepy, confusing, and filled with the dry humor and pain of the main character. It's cool how you are thrown into the story without understanding what's going on.

I love stories with all those things. Now let's see if I can really hold off until next weekend...I have company coming and other books due back to the library first though so it might not be too hard. :)

I just got it too! It's sitting on my desk, pretty cover heckling me to read it. Sounds like I'll enjoy it!

Hmm... You've given me a disturbing image of tiny Gen and Irene squealing under a microscope and applied scalpel knife. How do they endure our scrutiny?

Welcome!

Tangled hit Sounis the moment the trailer was released in theaters. When I saw "the world greatest thief" text plastered on the big screen, I was like, "Hey! That's copyright infringement!" Being in public, I was not able to start screaming about the wrongness of it all.

This reminds me... This movie is out on DVD. I need to re watch it. :D

HA!
Well, know one around me, not one of my peers knows of 'The Queens Thief' series and so its really interesting to come across this community.
Did you guys study this in school? In America?
I'm actually from Australia and my Grandfather who is American gave my brother the book so thats how I got into it.

Thanks so much guys,
I'm now in love with Tangled, not just because it is a disney film, but now its like watching an animated (though slightly different) version of Gen.
So much more to daydream about now.

Hahaa

Nope, we all read the book on our own and were drawn together by the intense crazy bond and fannish energies! :)

I WISH they made us read it in school!

Ditto. The best thing I ever read for school was the Ugly Duckling play (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ugly_Duckling_(play)) by A. A. Milne - a snarky, hilarious satire about true beauty. Other than that, it was all Little Match Girl and The Happy Prince. Why, oh WHY do we give children such angsty stories to read in grade school?

Best part-

Princess: It takes half an hour to lower the draw bridge.
King: Yes, it's in want of oil. (to minister) Have you been skimping on oil?
Princess: It's in want of a new draw bridge!

I just saw 'Tangled' yesterday at a drive-in with my friends!!! (actually we went to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie but Tangled was on after it) and I was cracking up so hard and my friends just couldn't understand why(it MIGHT have something to do with the 2 large rootbeers and 3 large cherry cokes I had((larges got free refils)))
I tried to explain but they just didn't get it. I probably should add that this was at like 4 in the morning sooooo...

YES YES I THOUGHT EXACTLY THE SAME WHEN I WATCHED IT. My (boy)friend and I were talking about it outside of the theater. And I didn't see any here when I first watched it. So. MAN THIS IS PRETTY EXCITING GUYS.

...I actually rented this just because of Sounis and TOTALLY fell in utter love with it. Love, my fellow Sounisians! Squee does not adequately describe my bliss...

Did anyone mention how both Gen and Eugene should have died but are prevented from doing so by an item of magical/mystical quality? Freaky parallel, there.

Also, digging deeper, both thieves fall in love with their future wives by watching them (while aforementioned wives either do not know or notice) and wishing, on some level, to save them from their lonely circumstances - Attolia from her wretchedly lonely royal position and Rapunzel from her vile "Mother" and isolated tower (note Eugene's comments on how Rapunzel should not go back to the tower.)

Gen's got a smoulder, too - even as a teen, when the barmaid brings him a hair tie (a lady's man a such a young age, too!)

Ok, brain freeze at 3:30 am. Can't think properly anymore...
