At my school, have a place where you can get muffins and cookies, etc. Sadly, there is a sign dictating we can only take one food item. How can I take more than one with a clear conscience? Like this.

Ok here's what I think Gen would do:

Remeber in QoA, when Helen asks, "Where's my necklace, where are my earrings?" and Gen says, "That necklace was hideous! it was the only way to keep you from wearing it!" This is how it would happen with the muffins:

*Gen walks past and sees the muffins and sign that say s to only take one.*
*Gen promptly takes all the muffins he wants*
*Gen gets caught*

Gen says: Those muffins were soooooooo unhealthy! It was the only way to keep you all from eating them!

And, according to your icon, he would say it wasn't really stealing!

Well, it's better than what Azula would do...

Thank you! The quote's from The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan, which I highly recommend.

I can't stand A Song of Ice and Fire. I feel your pain.

Maybe it was the fact that the narrator is almost a sociopath? It made it a hard book to read, and part of the reason I like the second and third books, told from Mae and Sin's point of views better.

On a side note, I keep typing Mai instead of Mae. Fandom. It's a curse.

There's actually a plot significant reason for that writing style that you find out about at the end of book one, and as soon as she switches narrators for book two, that goes away. It actually made me unhappy at firs, having known her through her fanfiction, where the quality was excellent, but the end made it make sense. Sadly it was a major surprise ending, so explaining it wouldn't be a good thing. Just remember, Nick himself is witty but horrible with words, and we're in his head for that book.

She's my favorite character, closely followed by Zuko and Ty Lee (on a side note, I have Opinions about Ty Lee). The Mai hate in A:tLA fandom is terrifying, all because she ruins the dreams of Zutarans.

I'm of two minds... I don't get Jossed until 2013.

In theory, I don't mind Zutara (I'm a multishipper, though I always come home to Maiko, and I really like shipping Katara with other girls) but I've found that a lot of the people who write it try to force the characters into a 1970's/1980's era romance novel, with the big, strong, suave take charge man and the feisty, confused woman who "tames him", whereas what you would actually have is the bumbling, sulky, prickly dork and the temperamental master waterbender who feels the need to mother everybody. It could be such a great ship. (There's also a couple of really great Zutara fics out there, but for the most part...)

Avatar the Lost Adventures had some previously unreleased comics in it. I bought it the other day and was pleasantly surprised.

Gen would go past, check out who was watching to make sure you would only take one, and then take as many as he wanted. Caught in the act, he would claim he was bringing them to his friends, because they couldn't come over (with his melt your heart face on that makes it seem that he is just the sweetest most honest boy in the whole world!)

Alternatively, if there where a lot of people around, he would just slip under the table and from there take as many as he wanted, then slip away when no one was looking (most likely several muffins lighter!)

Really fun post :-)

This wouldn't work with cookies, but with muffins, he could...
1. unwrap the paper baking cup from around one muffin without lifting the muffin from the tray
2. unfold the paper and spread it out flat around the muffin
3. do #1 with another muffin
4. take that muffin off its paper and put it on the unfolded cup of the first one, smooshing them together a little bit
5. repeat #3-4 until the flattened paper is covered with muffin
6. carefully lift the first muffin's cup off the tray, with all its contents.
7. If challenged, say, "This is one!"

I don't quite follow that process, but that only means that its something Gen would do, since I can never quite keep up with his schemes either!

Hey, I have a new idea, anybody ever heard "you touch it, you take it?" Gen would just touch them all and HAVE to take them all!

Keh... He would take it a step further and lick them all, so that nobody else would want them!

Hahahaha. :) Muffins are better than horses --they don't make any noise...

In this same vein, my sisters and I had a conversation today about what Gen would do if he was in a High School. Especially in careers class. In Ontario, you have to take this stupid class in grade 10, in which you fill out personality tests and bring in motivational quotes and pretend to be doing deep Self-Examination to see what you will Do With Your Life. We concluded that Gen would probably not go (after attending the first class and announcing his intention of being a thief, and getting in an argument with the teacher).
But we thought he'd get top marks in biological classification, and would probably have one or two teachers who, despite their infuriation with him, would recognize his potential. In general he would be one of those kids who drives teachers up the wall but does well just to prove you wrong.

Just think --Gen could have been a student if he had gone to the University on the Peninsula! I wonder how that would have gone?

Thats Gen 100% ! I'm sure he would drive his teachers crazy - maybe thats the reason Helen put him in the library, so he could learn on his own without infuriating anyone :)
