Two days ago, Monica Endinger posted this on her blog:
…. a little bird told me the next two [Queen's Thief books] are in the home stretch of being finished and coming out some time in the not-too-far-off future. First the publisher will reissue the original four to bring a new generation of readers to them and then….numbers five and six.
Maybe we'll have a new book this year? I don't know, but I'm so excited I could almost dance on a roof!

Date: 1/17/16 02:25 pm (UTC)That is encouraging news! Does "reissue" just mean print off more copies, or a whole redesign of the previous 4 books?

Date: 1/18/16 01:10 am (UTC)Oh true that.
I was thinking they'd redesign the covers with a more YA feel, the way that many books are now being reissued (ie Mistborn). The library system and major book retailers where I live consider them as children's books, but the online community has more or less considered them YA.
That said, all my books are in the Vince Natale version, so I'd be really kind of disappointed if the last two books don't match. T__T

Date: 1/18/16 02:09 am (UTC)Mistborn is being reissued? Ooh, I'll need to take a look at the new covers!

Date: 1/22/16 05:27 am (UTC)But alas! We'll probably get a new issue of KOA with a cartoony silhouette of a crown falling across a deep fuchsia background, and some equally cartoony lettering -- fat, blobby and white. And I will weep! And I can just see the Queen of Attolia cover -- can't you? It will have stylized pieces of an amphora flying across the page, on a poison green background, with more blobby, white lettering.
Oh, I really hope not!
I'd so much rather have Vince Natale's paintings! Why should beautiful art and design be relegated to children? YAs can read pretty books, too!

BECAUSE HOLY CRAP, I'M EXCITED. SO, SO EXCITED.
(Let's be honest, it might be too late for you to stop me from the above activities.)

Date: 1/22/16 05:35 am (UTC)Oh, Paddy dear, and did you hear the news that's going round
The shamrock is forbid by law to grow on Irish ground….etc.
I start singing when I get excited! Fortunately, I can sing -- but I do tend to make up my own lyrics. So you're lucky you're not around me. ;-D
I'm singing now, or at least humming -- I absolutely can't wait for the books, but I'm nervous about the covers.
So excited, though!

Date: 1/18/16 05:49 am (UTC)I will echo sentiments that have already been expressed: Mixed feelings on the "rebranding." I loved the cover art and design of the current editions and hope they will keep it in the same style, as they have a degree of sophistication that is distinctly different from and (in my opinion) preferable to what is on the Teen shelf at B&N these days...but obviously it's all about what's best for Megan, and I'm sure all of the publisher's decisions are based on bringing as many readers and as much success as possible.*
*I say this, but selfishly I am still sad :( But of course happy that MWT's hard work will finally pay off.
Conflicted feelings.

Date: 1/18/16 10:29 am (UTC)I too am concerned about possible new cover art for the reissues. The current art is beautiful, and I don't want new covers that look like generic YA covers...

A Conspiracy of Kings (2010)
Book 5, a.k.a. The King of Attolia, Part 2 (2016)
Only, then book 6, In Which Eugenides is not Startled by an Elephant, would have to come out in 2020 to make the pattern stick, and that's just an inconceivably long time from now. Break the pattern, I say.

Date: 1/26/16 07:27 pm (UTC)My hope is that Book 5 and book 6 are related and were written at the same time, which means that she has been working on both books simultaneously. Which will hopefully mean that the release dates for both books will be more or less 1-2 years apart.
