Hamiathes' Gift Exchange - Round 2 Planning

Hey, Sounis! I've been ridiculously busy IRL lately and have missed a lot of the discussion, but I'm as excited as anyone about the new book coming out in May!

I realize that's six whole months away, but I'd like to start thinking about whether to hold a 2017 edition of the Hamiathes' Gift Exchange. I was thrilled so many of you participated in 2016 and created so many new fanworks--thank you so much for all your hard work and creativity!--and I hope a second round would be just as successful.

Here's what I'm wondering--would it be best to kick off the exchange in March and finish it up in early May, a little before the fifth book comes out, as part of the lead-in to Thick as Thieves and all the discussion that's sure to follow? Or would everyone prefer that we wait until the dust has settled, kick off the exchange in June, and finish it up in August?

I vote for the later option for two reasons: personally because I'm currently embroiled in the most ridiculous massive ambitious fic project I've ever undertaken and I doubt it'll be wrapped up by March, and also because won't we want the option to write and request fic from the new book?

Chiming in to give my two cents... I'd prefer the later time period for two reasons.

(1) I think it would be more fun to write fic inspired by the new book.

(2) I'd like to continue the read-along with the QoA starting in Feb. and wrapping up in May just before the new book comes out. It would be more challenging to write a fic and a discussion post at the same time. More on this later, as soon as I have time to set things up!

Having read the two comments above, I just wanted to add that I'm quite agreed with those: it /would/ be fun to have TaT as part of the fic exchange, so giving a lot more to write about; and it also to have some more read-alongs for the other books beforehand, so we can all be prepared...!
