[identity profile] octopirock.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] queensthief
I've finally caught up on all the old posts, and de-lurked enough to ask a question:

Is anyone at all interested in doing some sort of community secret santa, or possibly a holiday book swap?

It's a great idea but what specifically do you mean by "secret santa" - just books or xmas presents in general?

The problem is - people would need to post addresses, or even just share them, and that seems to be serious breech of internet security policies. Especially given how many are teenage girls. Locking the post doesn't really help either.

I think it would be great fun, and I would love to participate, but it is too great of a risk. I know I am much too casual about sharing personal information on line, but this worries me. Unless someone has a way to keep it private and secure ...

What if we did online things? Like make icons or swap mp3's or wallpapers or something?

Okay! Let's do that, then! ^^ And we could list fandoms we like, to give people a direction to go in, maybe?

What if everyone just submitted three book recommendations they think others might not have read, as a gift to everyone else?

I think the book idea is great.

So I'll try again. :)

It is a lovely idea, but I have to agree with everyone else. It would involve the sharing of personal information, such as addresses, and if this is to happen at all, it should be something agreed upon by two individuals, not done through a community, I think. I just can't think of any way of keeping the information secure enough.

Bear and Philia's ideas are nice. People could choose to sign up for something like that. :)

i like the idea of doing icons and stuff, though i suppose if we were to do anything we should organise it soon to give people a chance to create/make/sort out whatever they're doing.

ooh i like the icon idea! icons of...what?
i am not keen at all on revealing my address, besides my parents will wonder what i've been doing, getting books in the mail from *unknown* people.
