This is a follow up reminder about the regular Sounis chat this saturday. We'll start off in The Conspiracy Room (password 'Sophos'), but may well relocate to the other chat room. Everyone is welcome, as usual, to come along and join in the conversation, or just lurk and listen.
The chat will be held at:
9-10pm UK Daylight time
4-5pm Eastern Daylight Time (US)
3-4pm Central Daylight Time (US)
I hope to see lots of you there!

Date: 11/23/06 07:14 pm (UTC)Random thought: You know when you're about to die, you're life flashes before your eyes? Well, if that happens to me, Death will probably press pause during these cracky conversations, bring out the popcorn and watch. He will then set up a chatroom in the afterlife, give Willow a zucchini farm, Jade several smexy guys (they change every day), Rowana an bottomless pot of tea, Leslie a BIG joke book, Checkers a trillion legos, and Fabricalchemist a ruffle.
What will he give me? Why, my sanity back so he can watch it be slowly scoured away all over again....

Date: 11/25/06 07:11 pm (UTC)I need more Terry Pratchett novels. I don't own nearly enough. Something is terribly, terribly wrong with my life.

Date: 11/25/06 07:27 pm (UTC)I met Pterry about a year ago, he signed my copy of 'Nightwatch'. Have you read any of the watch series, or just the death series?

Date: 11/25/06 07:38 pm (UTC)...*falls over dead* Whenever someone asks what my favorite books in the whole wide world are, I name The Queen of Attolia and Nightwatch. Oh. My. God. Sam Vimes is my FAVORITE!! I haven't read Thud yet, because I need to reread all the Watch books, and the Time books, and then Nightwatch again. I've only read it once, but...it IS, you know? It just IS.
My friend met him in London and got a copy of Going Postal signed for me (it's at home, 'cause I didn't trust it here, so I haven't had a chance to actually read it yet). Gaaaah...I miss my Pratchett binges, where I'd read an entire series (or what I could get at the library *eyeroll*) in the course of a month...*sighs, really, REALLY needs to reread*

Date: 11/25/06 08:32 pm (UTC)Your friend must have gone to the same signing as me! I used to do the binge thing too, I read the whole witches series in a few days. Excellent, wonderful, hilarious books. 'Soul music' was my first - I was hooked from 'Infinity is blue'. :)
Yay for Pratchett fans!

Date: 11/25/06 09:24 pm (UTC)Oh, I'm totally in love with Sam. If he wasn't married to Sybil, oh yeah. I'm there. The beauty of Nightwatch is that I really, really think it's Pratchett's defining novel--you can enjoy it on its own, but if you've read all of the Discworld novels--I mean, EVERYONE is in that book, and it makes it so much better. And it's an example of how you can be funny and ridiculous but still totally just NAIL some theme of human life--oh, I was crying at the end of it. *sighs happily*
I actually read "The Color of Magic" and "The Light Fantastic" first--and then I found the Death books, and figured out the whole series thing, and started reading from there.
*high-fives*

Date: 11/26/06 05:55 pm (UTC)I agree, Nightwatch really is The One. It seems to be one book that most Pratchett fans love. It really was great. One really amazing thing that happened to me this 25th of May was that I went out tentatively wearing a sprig of lilac, and actually passed someone else on the street who was doing the same thing. It was a moment of odd Pratchett fan connection. :)
I read "The Colour of Magic" and didn't like it that much, but my friend continuted to push me into the death books, and I loved those, and then found Vetinari and Vimes clinched it all.
*high-fives back*
