It's Tuesday! The new editions come out today!

Here is a spoilery place for everyone to discuss "Wine Shop" a short story that will appear in the new edition of KoA. Please, keep spoilers contained to this post or hide spoilers under an LJ-cut with a clear warning for at least a month. That way everyone has time to get a chance to read it. HERE are Sounis's other spoiler polices and instructions for how to use an the Lj-cut.

Please, discuss "The Knife Dance" in it's own POST, and do not post spoilers for it on this page. Just in case someone has King but not Queen yet.

If you've never read the other short stories that take place in the QT universe, they are availble HERE for community members.

So, this happens between Queen and King, right?

I found it quite fun, though honestly, I wish we'd gotten a look through some different characters, as Teleus and Relius already have their arcs. Perhaps even Costis, though I think Aris might have been more fun to see inside his head.

I got the impression it happened mid-KoA--the way Teleus and Relius discuss him seems too respectful for it to be any earlier. Also they mention stabbing, which makes me wonder if this scene didn't happen post-garden assassination attempt. It certainly reads like a deleted scene from KoA, at any rate, which would also explain why it's more of Teleus and Relius!

I loved that Gen would insist he be printed on the largest coin first. It's such a Gen thing to do. And there was also that line from Relius, "I don't imagine many will be minted, but still. The other coins will be coming": it's not just Gen being put on the most expensive coin, it's him still trying to avoid the spotlight. The Attolians see it as an Eddisian being pushy and invasive and expensive, but poor Gen is homesick and puts off seeing his likeness on the most commonly used Attolian currency.

And I love that this is the same wineshop Gen took Sophos-who-is-Sounis to in CoK. XD

Yes, those details were really nice. I think you're right about the timing, though I'm holding off on rereading as we go along, so won't know for sure for a bit. :)

Is it the same wineshop?

Teleus and Relius don't seem quite as pro-Gen as I feel they are post-KoA, though.

*dodging spoilers* What's the likelihood of these being on the shelf at, say, my local Barnes & Noble, if I were to run out today to fetch them? Anyone know?

(I live at a distance from civilization in general, so by "local" I mean a half-hour drive at least. Hence my indecision as to whether I should venture out or simply opt for 2-day shipping from Amazon. 0:) *is excited*

I realize "distance" is all relative. :D I'm just a cranky former-suburbanite.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I rarely have any luck finding the books I want stocked at a B&N. Thanks for your input!

I live in northern Virginia, about an hour from DC, and work at Barnes and Noble. They have about 7-10 of each book in a nice display tonight.

That's is - this felt like a missing scene. Thanks for putting it that way!

The Shade Oak wine shop is the place where Gen was arrested in The Thief. The tavern in CoK is unnamed, and the only identifying characteristic is that it has "a sign of painted grapes." It could very well be The Vine and the Cup after all.

In CoK, we hear that Teleus is unhappy when the king leaves the palace, but Teleus might not have known where the king disappears to in the city. Therefore, he's been unable to march him home...until now. It sounds like Teleus wasn't quite so pleased after all at having succeeded at last, in his recounting to Relius.
