Cymorene = Cyprus?
May. 26th, 2017 02:17 pmI was hanging out on Google Maps, more or less confirming what most of us have already assumed about the world of the Queen's Thief being loosely based on the Mediterranean Sea and the lands surrounding it, by comparing our shiny new QT maps with real world geography.
For example:
Middle Sea = Mediterranean Sea
Eddis, Attolia, Sounis = Turkey (or, perhaps more loosely matched, Greece, with Italy looking a bit like the Greater Peninsula?)
Hylas = Cairo (ish)
The similarities are definitely there, but I think what really cinches it for me is the island of Cymorene located in approximately the same spot as Cyprus!
I'm sure someone else has already pointed this out, and I'm not sure why it excites me as much as it does, but there ya go.

Date: 5/29/17 05:42 am (UTC)The Little Pennisula is clearly based on the Anatolian Peninsula (if the name wasn't an obvious hint). Also, Mediterranean means "sea in the middle of the earth."
Like Lake Superior has been called the great/big/shiny? lake in various languages.The Greater Peninsula looks like Italy and the Mede Empire brings to mind Northern Africa and the Middle East, which make sense as real life Medes were Persian. Also, the Medes have a delta like the Nile does.
Cymorene could also be based on Crete or is that Thegmis?
