Here's another great interview with Megan, where she talks about writing "twists" into books, fantasy world-building, and about Gen as a character.

Favorite parts:
"The Thief is about 21 years old now, so it's just about old enough to buy a drink."
Calling her books "Fellowship of the Hamiathes Gift."

Oh, and it's official, Gen is a jerk. She's called him that at least twice now, so there you go.

Wow, we have really been spoiled for fantastic interviews. This was great! It somehow hadn't quite clicked for me that the third person TaT draft was in the same kind of third person as its "first half" -- and It's been interesting to me to take scenes from TaT and think about how Costis would have experienced them, but I'm able to do that because he has his own story, because I've read it. I'm glad that Kamet's is now the one we get. It's new, in the overall story, and better for it. :)

Thank you for sharing this delightful interview.
"That there was an entire fantasy world as opposed to like, three nations in a void surrounded by nothingness..."
These three countries in the books are part of a bigger world. I really like that. It reminds me of " noone is an island."

Wait, I thought TaT was entirely in first person?

Ooh, how I'd love to hear Costis' internal monologue during some of those scenes! Kamet's representation of Costis is all, "Flesh wounds? Lions? Namreen? Honey-badger don't care!" But based on what we know of Costis in KoA, his thoughts were probably more along the lines of, "Oh gods, oh gods... what did I get myself into this time? GO TO THE MEDES, Eugenides said! IT'LL BE FUN, he said! Ten newly tinned pots on the alter of whichever deity will get me through this!"

Thanks for sharing!

I've never thought a lot about why this book is in first versus third person, so I liked that insight into making sure Kamet didn't become the object of the story. This is *his* story. MWT does a fantastic job making Kamet come alive through his telling.

I really enjoyed it because while it's obviously so very different, it felt a bit like getting to read The Thief again-for-the-first-time.

The part of the interview that struck me most was MWT saying "I love the double entendre, where if you know something, this phrase means something completely different." in view of the fact that she raved about the Oxford comma back in the says of Queen of Attolia, and the missing comma there was only just now noticed, I feel we've been challeneged to read T. of T. again and find all the double entendres hidden in the picture....

When did she rave about the Oxford comma?

In the comments on the original post about the wooden cannons, Freenarnian refered to a tumblr post where MWT said "my three favorite things are the oxford comma, irony, and missed opportunities." So maybe not raving, but certainly expressing fondness!
