Oh my gosh, I love love love this review!

I nearly always love their reviews--they have an excellent way of breaking a book down into aspects I hadn't really considered.

This review is a spoiler-free look at the latest Queen’s Thief book, Thick as Thieves.
Warning: It contains feelings.

This beginning made me LOL.

This book is heartbreaking.

YES. In so many ways.

The review reminded me of some of our discussions here--that so many of the things that happen in the book are grim, or sad, or...heartbreaking. But somehow it doesn't come across as a grim or dark book. The characters (esp. Kamet) have tough times but they never completely lose their hope or empathy. Kamet describes so many awful things in a completely matter of fact way. That's just how life is, for him.

If The Thief and The King of Attolia had a book baby, this would be it.

I LOVE THIS LINE.

There are literal Deus ex machina moments here.
What do you all think about that? I always thought of deus ex machina as a plot device that bad writers use to get themselves out of a pickle they've written their characters into. I've never heard it used to describe an intentional method of bringing a pantheon of deities/mythological characters into a story.

In the six intervening years since the last book, I have grown unaccustomed to reading books that have only male characters. I really missed the ladies here

This is so funny--I was just thinking about this! How weird it is to read a book with pretty much all male characters in it, and Megan feels about the lack of female characters in TaT.

No one will ever be able to convince me that this isn’t a gay romance.
This really makes me want to go back and reread again and carefully consider this. I think it deserves its own post, so maybe we can talk about that sometime.
