The Year of the Thief!
Jan. 1st, 2019 05:16 amHappy New Year's, everyone! The year of the Thief is upon us (that’s what I’m calling 2019 from now on), which means it’s the right time to discuss plans for celebrating the release of the final book in our favorite series!
Also, let’s start the year off right with a chat next Sunday. It’s been a while! We can discuss all of our most recent RoT theories and scheme about our plans to celebrate the book’s release.
So, join us in the Conspiracy Room for some New Year's punch Sunday, January 6th at...
5pm Pacific Time
6pm Mountain Time
7pm Central Time
8pm Eastern Time

As we so recently (in QT years) did a full scale re-read/discussion of the previous books of the series and since this is the final book, it seems appropriate to shake things up a bit. The release of CoK and TaT were celebrated by re-reading and discussing each book over a predetermined period of time with a volunteer leading the discussion each week. With the release of the final book, it feels more fitting to reminisce about each book and perhaps even Sounis itself.
What I mean by reminisce is look back on previous discussions and revisit old posts, especially the discussions conducted just prior to the release of CoK and TaT. Perhaps even extending beyond discussing the books themselves, we can recall memories about our experiences with reading the books, sharing them with others, and the effect they’ve had on our reading lives. Essentially, a week devoted to each book to, in a way, celebrate the book itself and not just discuss the story.
The one exception I’d like to make is TaT. I did set up a very informal re-read to celebrate the book’s one year anniversary back in May. However, we’ve never done a formal re-read during which I break the book up into four parts and assign each part to a volunteer.
The overall scheme of this would be to have our release party span a manageable two months instead of six or more and also to have a chance to reflect on twenty years of QT fandom.
Here’s what I’m thinking for the schedule…
Reflections on books 1-4.
The Thief Jan. 20th - Jan. 26th
The Queen of Attolia Jan. 27th - Feb. 2nd
The King of Attolia Feb. 3rd - Feb. 9th
A Conspiracy of Kings Feb. 10th - Feb. 16th
Thick as Thieves
Re-Read
Chapters 1-3 Feb. 17th - Feb. 23rd
Chapters 4-6 Feb. 24th - Mar. 2nd
Chapters 7-10 Mar. 3rd - Mar. 9th
Chapters 11-13+Envoy Mar. 10th - Mar. 16th
Any ideas/opinions about how we should celebrate RoT? Let me know in the comments below.

Date: 1/4/19 07:55 pm (UTC)My re-read plans are this......I already took time off for a six day "readcation" leading up to the book release. One book per day. The husband has already been notified several times that this is a READcation and I shan't be disturbed. I will leave the house to seek out other reading locales if needed.

Date: 1/10/19 02:27 am (UTC)I've found that unless a chat planned far in advance is on a holiday weekend (a mile marker) people tend to forget about them, as they don't know what they are doing that far in advance and can't make plans to attend.
But I think I have a solution for you... Go to our Profile (https://sounis.livejournal.com/profile) and click on notifications--it's a little square icon.
If you don't wish to receive emails about every post, simply select the option to only receive emails about posts tagged "chat" from the drop down menu and save your changes. All chat notices will have that tag. That way you'll get an email each time a chat is happening.
Hope that fixes the issue for you!
