Every time J.K. Rowling shares more details about her Harry Potter characters that no one asked for, I get more and more grateful for our own dear Megan's penchant for "Not Telling".

That's all.

There is a fine line between telling more than is wanted and not telling at all. I prefer Megan's not telling as it let's me picture what/how I want to know instead of being annoyed that someone/thing is all wrong. If that makes sense.

I don't even mind authors expanding their universes (Leigh Bardugo does this well) but JKR does seem to draw her "new information" out of a hat at random, sometimes. To say nothing of retconning. :(

I guess I need to go and look for this....dying here for more of the Six of Crows universe. Hey, what did you think of King of Scars??

She has a way of answering questions about her world and characters that makes you nod and think, "She really understands her own creation" instead of, "Did she just make that up? Sounds like she just made that up." (I mean, I know she made it ALL up, but there's a consistency there, even when she's being humorous.)

I liked King of Scars. Enough to read the entire ebook in a week on my tiny phone screen. (My eyes! D:) I hadn't visited the Grishaverse in so long, and I had no memory of placing a hold on KoS, but there it was! I found Nikolai's POV really touching, somehow. He reminded me almost of Sophos... er, if Sophos were a talkative silver-tongued ex-pirate with oodles of outward self-assurance. OK, so, not very like Sophos at all. XD I guess it was the inner doubt and earnest desire to be a good king that drew the comparison. Also, the slow burn you know what with you know who. (Or maybe you don't, because you haven't read it yet. Nevermind!) Suffice to say I'm a sucker for slow burn everything. But I also heard Grisha fans who weren't happy with that element of the story, so, maybe I need to re-read the other books. The inclusion of one of the Six of Crows cast was exciting in prospect but a bit meh in reality. Those chapters just felt unrelated to the rest of the story, and annoying when I wanted to get back to Nikolai and crew. And by the end, the story seemed to be getting a bit out of hand, and the end itself just... What. What?! Noooo. But I won't say more, because, spoilers.

And all the collected peoples of Eddis, Attolia, and Sounis cheered.

Yes, we did! The short stories that Megan releases every now and then fill in parts of the story is lovely ways. Tweeting random "facts" about the characters is a harsh way to introduce new info about beloved characters.

I guess I'm in the minority and don't really care. It's her canon, she does whatever. I try my best to not follow authors though (just stick me on a mailing list with publication updates please! Tell me when you have a new book out!)
