Hmmm, would he make a good Eugenides?

I saw the live-action Aladdin movie yesterday and as I watched actor Mena Massoud jump off roofs, steal earrings, juggle (albeit with two hands), and grin at everyone who hated him I thought, "THIS IS GEN." His hair curls around his ears. He can raise one eyebrow. No feather shaped scar, that I could see, but he has an adorable dimple.

Does anyone else think the same?

This makes me laugh, because I've been wanting to post this exact same thing for a while. It was a fun movie, but I have to be honest, I thought more about how the way they approached the rooftop chase scenes reminded me of QoA, and that it was what I'd hope those scenes in would look like if Qt were ever made into a film. I don't think there's an actor that would ever really be exactly how I picture Gen, but Mena Massoud and his acrobatics here were as close as anyone's ever come.

While I'm nerding, out, I've also been thinking similar-ish things about the queen Sarai in the new series "The Dragon Prince" on Netflix (S2E5-6 if anyone's interested). The way she moves and fights, especially a signature leap into the air and delivering an overhand death-blow to an apponent, makes me think so much of QT. I generally tend to hope for a live-action film if QT were ever adapted, but this particular show convinced me I would manage to survive if it were ever animated. I know it's a kids' cartoon, but 1) there are smallish people here so that's my excuse and 2) the action/fight sequences take me to my happy place of being able to envision different scenes in QT.

Though I hadn't made the connection myself, I can see what you mean about Queen Sarai. She's a gorgeously animated character!

I've really enjoyed the animation work they did. It's a beautiful show. The training/practice scene with Sarai gives me all kinds of Costis/Gen training feels.

I've been wanting to see Aladdin specifically for the purpose of projecting my QT film daydreams upon it. Based on the pictures you linked, I'd say he looks like a good Gen! I have yet to see him act, though, and I suspect he wouldn't be cast again in so similar a role. So, the daydreams will have to suffice, for now...

Well, if Jasmine had turned him in for stealing her bracelet or showing up at her private door we might have seen a good deal more brooding. They glossed right over the 'I've been caught, I'm in jail' bit which would have been crucial for comparison sake. ;)
