One of the mysteries not resolved in RotT
Oct. 12th, 2020 09:31 pmWe still don't know who Gitta Kingsdaughter is. I'm fine with that. If I remember correctly, MWT said that she wasn't actually coming into the story.
But her tutor is Tykus Namikus. I don't know exactly what language Attolian, Sounisian, and Eddisian are based on. Medieval Greek, maybe? Wikipedia claims that: The word name comes from Old English nama; cognate with Old High German (OHG) namo, Sanskrit नामन् (nāman), Latin nomen, Greek ὄνομα (onoma), and Persian نام (nâm), from the Proto-Indo-European (PIE) *h₁nómn̥.
Is there any way that Tykus Namikus could mean King-Namer? I can certainly see Kamet becoming tutor to a royal princess a few decades down the road. He reads and writes in five languages, and I'm sure he could pick up others pretty quickly if need be.
Does this make any sense to anyone else?

Date: 10/13/20 04:54 am (UTC)I've also heard another theory: That Tykus Namikus is the Magus. In which case Gitta might be Sophos and Helen's daughter, or another Attolian daughter after the twins. This could also be the "secret" hidden in the map. (I don't think we ever figured out what that was?)

Date: 12/31/20 05:51 pm (UTC)and for some reason I felt that "Tykus" might be a variant of Ticus/Tichus/??
and be a reference to Gen? But, yes, I strongly felt this was Eugenia and Kamet.
But it's up to interpretation and far from certain.
And I did not research. Thanks for the post!
