We still don't know who Gitta Kingsdaughter is. I'm fine with that. If I remember correctly, MWT said that she wasn't actually coming into the story.

But her tutor is Tykus Namikus. I don't know exactly what language Attolian, Sounisian, and Eddisian are based on. Medieval Greek, maybe? Wikipedia claims that: The word name comes from Old English nama; cognate with Old High German (OHG) namo, Sanskrit नामन् (nāman), Latin nomen, Greek ὄνομα (onoma), and Persian نام (nâm), from the Proto-Indo-European (PIE) *h₁nómn̥.

Is there any way that Tykus Namikus could mean King-Namer? I can certainly see Kamet becoming tutor to a royal princess a few decades down the road. He reads and writes in five languages, and I'm sure he could pick up others pretty quickly if need be.

Does this make any sense to anyone else?

Gitta sounds like a Celtic name to me which makes me think of the Braelings (who are... not Celtic so much as Scandinavian, so maybe that doesn't make as much sense as I thought...) but "Kingsdaughter" has an Attolian precedent with "Kingnamer" (the name the Attolians gave to Kamet), so my imagination is saying she's some future descendant of Gen and Irene's, perhaps after some Braeling intermarriage within the monarchy? (Might explain why the murals in the conference room are described by Pheris as later being painted over with images from the naval battle at Hemsha. Which struck me as an odd choice, seeing as those were Braeling ships and the Attolians pretended they weren't involved. Unless that just became an open secret later?)

I've also heard another theory: That Tykus Namikus is the Magus. In which case Gitta might be Sophos and Helen's daughter, or another Attolian daughter after the twins. This could also be the "secret" hidden in the map. (I don't think we ever figured out what that was?)

OR... Gitta could be a pet name for Eugenia.

MWT may be finished with this series (for now), but she's clearly hanging on to a few secrets. :)

In my country Gitta is a commonly used petname for Brigitta or Margaret (Margit). 🙂 just saying...

Gitta

The Map on which Gitta is referenced is decorated with Lilies and olives and I'm fairly certain the earrings in the map (next to the text) are the Attolian Bees (older than the Monarchy) that Attolia used to bribe allies when she made herself queen. So all that points to Gitta being an Attolian Princess. And she must live during or after Gen's reign if she's reading the Queen's Thief book since they are the chronicle of his life. So most likely I'd say Gitta is Gen and Attolia's daughter (Eugenia or another born latter), or one of their descendants. What do you think ?

I felt that "Namikus" was a variant of "Namer"
and for some reason I felt that "Tykus" might be a variant of Ticus/Tichus/??
and be a reference to Gen? But, yes, I strongly felt this was Eugenia and Kamet.
But it's up to interpretation and far from certain.
And I did not research. Thanks for the post!
