Recently I have successfully recommended  the Thief series to my friend. She just finished KoA days ago and  also loves the books very much. Now I'm persuading her to join  this community. We happily discussed about the stories, but there are still some questions we couldn't figure out (which is also my own question when I first read KoA, but I forgot to ask).

What role did Laecdomon play in the last part of the book, when they were sparring? It seems that Eugenides, Attolia and Ornon didn't think that Laecdomon was a threat, but Costis and Teleus thuoght he was, and then how did the others think about Leacdomon? Did they know that Laecdomon wanted to kill the king? And what Eugenides said to Teleus,"'Ornon wasn't thinking of circus tricks. He knew that if Laecdomon had ever become a real threat, I would have disemboweled him. Did you forget?' He raised his lamed arm, and looking at the truncated limb, they remembered the deadly nature of the replacement for his missing hand." What does it mean? And what  does Laecdomon  have to do with the missing hand? We just could'nt make the whole thing clear.  Please let us know your opinions, thanks~

Oh, and another insignificant question, how old do you think Ornon is?

Ok, I'll try to answer. I think Costis and Teleus knew that Laecdomon was up to no good. Since Eugenides had already fought a number of people they thought he might be too tired, I guess to fight a fresh opponent. Ornon and Attolia had a little more faith in Eugenides and remembered that he had besides the wooden sword a metal hook on one of his arms. Which he could have used to hurt Laecdomon if things got too dangerous. I always seem to see things differently than everyone else so I could be totally off, but I hope that helps some.

Yes, the hook is a deadly weapon. Remember what he did to the bedpost and the curtains?

Also, both Ornon and Attolia have more respect for Gen's ability with a sword than any one else in Attolia.

Or what he did to the asassins in the garden.

I think Ornon is mid-forties/fifty, but that's just me...

Good point, Feir. The book never *says* that Gen used his hook on the assassins, but Costis saw the blood on it and on his sleeve when he helped Gen back to the palace.
