Age Theory Pt. 3 - the Magus
Feb. 4th, 2007 04:35 pmIn rereading The Thief, I've discovered some clues about the Magus's age.
What do you all think?
On page 134 of the new paperback, Gen says, "I knew about the plague years that had come 30 years before I was born." On the next page the magus says, " There are a few abandoned farms--the place we stayed before starting up the mountain, for example. The single surviving member of that family left the farm in order to go to the city to get an education." He goes on to say that he was that person.
In The Queen of Attolia, page 146 (also new paperback) talks about the magus. "He (Gen) knew that the magus had been raised by strangers when his family had died of the plague. He had been apprenticed very young, at his own request, to a scholar in the city..."
So the magus's family died 30 years before Gen was born. Let's say that Gen was 15 in Thief. That would make the magus at least 45, and that's if his family died just after the magus was born. He could be older if he was a child when the family died. So, maybe around 50?
