Last year, a dear friend of mine graduated from her college with a degree in Illustration. For her senior thesis, she designed her own book covers for 6 of her favorite young adult books. I attended her gallery showing and slowly began to peruse the line of posters and matching books. She had large prints of each cover, and then had printed out the covers and put them on the books in front of the pictures.
Now, my friend had known that I *LOVED* "The Thief" ever since I was little, and that was the last poster she had up on the wall. I looked at the poster (which did not have the title on it) and didn't immediately realize what book it was for. Then I looked at the book cover in front...
...AND FLIPPED OUT.
It is so gorgeous, I was literally speechless for a period of time. I waited to post it here because I know she was starting her own studios and I didn't want to infringe on her copyrights or anything like that. But she did give me permission to post it here.
And now I present: Dani's Senior Thesis
I had never actually read four of these books, being only familiar with Dune and The Thief. But I'm sure some of you here have read them. They were partly created traditionally, with her own custom brushes. But the majority of the art was done digitally with Open Canvas, Photoshop, and a tablet.
When her studios are set up, they will be located at www.dewprism.com

The Phantom Tollbooth

Winds of Fate

Dealing with Dragons

Owl in Love

Dune
AND

The Thief
*swoon*
I may be biased, but I feel that The Thief is the best out of the six, though they are all beautiful works of art and even more stunning in person.
Warning, these images may take some time to load.
Please, please, PLEASE do not take these images and post them anywhere else. This is her degree-work and must not be used for anything else because of the difficulty it would present her as a professional artist.
I'm glad I was finally able to share them with this community. <3<3<3

Date: 2/4/07 11:05 pm (UTC)Those are, indeed, really, really good. I recognized Dealing with Dragons immediately, and I really like it.
Though I agree, The Thief is the best of the lot. It's so dark and murky, and yet Gen still looks so cocky...
tell your friend these are fantastic!

XD
She's too shy to say it herself though. =p Or to send it to Megan, though I am tempted to do it anyways. >___>
She also adds that her own commenta bout the thief picture are "(Personally, I
keep thinking "GRAH he should look more scrawny and dirty and have longer
hair. >:(" ...but that's just me. XD;)" which I thought was an amusing thing to say.
How to get Megan to see it... hmmm...
