Thief Art

Last year, a dear friend of mine graduated from her college with a degree in Illustration. For her senior thesis, she designed her own book covers for 6 of her favorite young adult books. I attended her gallery showing and slowly began to peruse the line of posters and matching books. She had large prints of each cover, and then had printed out the covers and put them on the books in front of the pictures.

Now, my friend had known that I *LOVED* "The Thief" ever since I was little, and that was the last poster she had up on the wall. I looked at the poster (which did not have the title on it) and didn't immediately realize what book it was for. Then I looked at the book cover in front...

...AND FLIPPED OUT.

It is so gorgeous, I was literally speechless for a period of time. I waited to post it here because I know she was starting her own studios and I didn't want to infringe on her copyrights or anything like that. But she did give me permission to post it here.

And now I present: Dani's Senior Thesis

I had never actually read four of these books, being only familiar with Dune and The Thief. But I'm sure some of you here have read them. They were partly created traditionally, with her own custom brushes. But the majority of the art was done digitally with Open Canvas, Photoshop, and a tablet.

When her studios are set up, they will be located at www.dewprism.com

The Phantom Tollbooth

Winds of Fate

Dealing with Dragons

Owl in Love

Dune

AND

The Thief

*swoon*

I may be biased, but I feel that The Thief is the best out of the six, though they are all beautiful works of art and even more stunning in person.

Warning, these images may take some time to load.

Please, please, PLEASE do not take these images and post them anywhere else. This is her degree-work and must not be used for anything else because of the difficulty it would present her as a professional artist.

I'm glad I was finally able to share them with this community. <3<3<3

That is Beautiful. All of them, but I agree, 'The Thief' one in particular. Wow. Your friend is very talented. :)

You can major in Illustration? WICKED!!

Those are, indeed, really, really good. I recognized Dealing with Dragons immediately, and I really like it.

Though I agree, The Thief is the best of the lot. It's so dark and murky, and yet Gen still looks so cocky...

tell your friend these are fantastic!

Owl in Love! Loved the book, and the feathers are a nice touch.

These are fabulous. Your friend is very talented, and I think she should somehow make certain that Megan sees this. I understand why the post is locked, but you or Dani might consider sending the illustration to her.

I agree--Thief is the best.

Those are so pretty! I love the illustrations for "Dealing with Dragons" and "Owl in Love" (read the first, but not the second). But wow, that Thief one is just amazing. :)

This is seriously good stuff! Thank you so much for letting us see it. I think this is vastly better than 90% of the cover art out there in the world.

Thank you so much for sharing! These are beautiful! Just wait until Avian finds out she can get a degree in Illustration.

Besides Thief and Owl, I really like Wind of Fate as well. I love the multi/layered images. I'm not familiar with either "Owl in Love" or "Wind of Fate", but I'm going to see if I can find them.

These are lovely. The Owl in love cover makes me want to go find a copy to read! But I think I like The thief and Dealing with dragons the best, although that could be that I also like those books :)

I am in such love with her cover for 'The Thief'. I am in love with Eugenides pose and the angle she has chosen, and the chain and the awesome nice touch that he is holding one handcuff - and the blue tones - So much here to love. This is some beautiful work!

I feel like your friend read my mind. Her Gen looks almost EXACTLY how I see him in my head. And her style is gorgeous!

Try to convince your friend to let you send it to Megan, she HAS to see it!!

wow these are nice. contrary to popular vote, i like owl in love best. =P though i haven't a clue what most of the books are about. only read a bit of dune once, read blurb on phantom tollbooth, of course read the thief, and that's all. do feedback to your friend that her art style is real nice ^^ saving them. =)

I really like the whole idea of the Thief one, but he didn't have a bench in Sounis' prison.

You're probably thinking of the line in KoA when he's visiting Relius's cell and doesn't remember there being a bed in his cell in Attolia.

Actually I recalled reading some part in the first few pages where the cell is uncomfortable and all and he has to sleep on the floor.
I may be wrong though...anyone care to check?

I just looked at these again. I hadn't noticed the letters and numbers in the background of the "Phantom Tollbooth" one before. Wonderful touch!

I like the Dune one.
Then again, I might be the only person in the room (metaphorically speaking) that likes Dune as a book. Could this be true?

I really like the "Owl in Love" one!

What're those brushes at the side of "dune"? Japanese characters?
