I'm going to be going to Greece at the end of August for about a week! The birthplace of Eddis/Attolia/Sounis!

I know MWT has visited Greece many times, but I can't seem to find all of her Tumblr posts easily. Anyone have suggestion for sights (or sites) that I MUST see while there that are either in Athens (where I'll be arriving), Thessaloniki (where I'll be staying), or anywhere in between? We'll only be on foot or public transportation, so unfortunately places well off the beaten path aren't an option.

Oh, I'm so jealous! I haven't been there, so let us know all about it when you're back.

How long will you be in Athens? You must do the Acropolis, of course, and I highly recommend the Acropolis Museum as well; it's one of the best museums I've ever been to. The National Archaeological Museum is great too. There are seven main archaeological sites: Acropolis, Hadrian's Library, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Roman Agora, Ancient Agora, Kerameikos, Lykeion. When I was there, you could get ticket for all seven sites at a discount, but I've only been in off season so not sure if they do it in the summer. They're all worth visiting, but if you have to narrow it down, I would say Ancient Agora is my favorite and Lykeion is the most skippable (it has less structures still standing than the other sites). Athens has a good metro and is very walkable, you won't have trouble getting around.

I was only in Thessaloniki for about two days but I absolutely fell in love with it! It has such a cool vibe. The archaeological museum there is also good. The Rotunda and Arch of Galerius have a lot of history. The White Tower of Thessaloniki is also a good landmark. It's a lovely walk along the water between the old port and the tower, and there are lots of bars/cafes/smoothie places along the way where you can stop for a refreshing drink.

Meteora is near Thessaloniki--monasteries built on the edges of cliffs, very cool to see. We did a day tour thing to get there, so I'm not sure how accessible it is if you don't do that.

Have so much fun!! I've been to Greece twice and I would still go back in a heartbeat. It's the best. If you have any questions, let me know!

The food is sooooo good in Greece! Definitely a great place for a food-themed trip. We got fantastic baklava from Konstantinidis in Athens. :)

That’s wonderful! Greece is on my bucket list, but I don’t know if I’ll ever make it there. I went back through the archives on Megan’s tumblr because I thought I remembered her posting from a trip she took some time ago. If you go into the archives, check out the posts from July 2014. And have a wonderful trip!

@readsintrees' trip has (for some of us) brought back up the idea of a Sounis group trip to Greece. Start saving and we can all start planning.

I'm sure you've already thought about looking through Moira's Pen for some clues and ideas from Megan's travels.

That's SO EXCITING! I hope you have an amazing time (and bring back lots of good stories to share with us)! :)

(Also, hello, Sounis! It's been a hot minute since I remembered my password dropped by. Hope you are all well. *hearts*)

Reads, just wondering how your trip to Greece went. Did you have a good time? Did you have a chance to visit any of the sites Megan had as inspiration for,the series?

Congratulations on your little Sounisian! I hope things get a little less hectic for you soon.
Thanks for sharing the photos of your trip. I don’t know how you managed to fit so much in, in such a short trip. It looks so beautiful there!
