Here's a fun game to play!
Aug. 4th, 2007 05:55 pmI thought I'd de-lurk in a showy fashion. I recently saw A Midsummer Night's Dream (I'm a long-time fan). That's a fun play to play "Who would perfom each role?" with. You can make all the Thief characters play parts that don't really suit them and imagine the hilarious results.
Attolia I could see as Titania but it would be weird for her to fall in love with a donkey. (Though I'm sure plenty of people would love to call Gen an ass.) I love to throw around gender roles though, so let's say that Attolia plays Demetrius. My reasoning is...they both have anger issues?
The obvious choice for Gen is Puck and I'm sure he'd have a lot of fun with it, messing with people's love lives with virtually no risk to himself. It would be hilarious to see him playing Helena though, especially considering who his cousin is. Still, he probably wouldn't take too well to being a "dog" for Demetrius, even if it's really Attolia. Actually, forget everything I've just said. Attolia can play Lysander and Gen can be Hermia, if only for the WTF? look he'd have when Irene suddenly loved whoever will play Helena.
Next up: Sophos! He can be...Oberon! It would be adorable! He'd be saying all the lines to plot against the fairy queen and be blushing all the while.
Now we're going to need a new Puck. How about Eddis? I bet she could have some fun with it. Making mischief would probably be a nice change of pace for her.
Still need a Helena though, someone who it would really unnerve Gen to see Attolia fall for and swoon over. Hmmm...oh I don't know, Costis. That would certainly be confusing. Oh, and Costis would get to call his king short! Repetedly! Oh surely this is humour in its highest form.
But who falls in love with Costis? I deem that our new Demitrius shall be...Captain Planet? No wait, something about that just doesn't sit right. Let's say Telius then. I get the feeling his performance would be rather strained though.
So we have our main four. Now let's fill up the remaining main characters. I think the magus would make a good Bottom and Titania could be played by Nahuseresh because he deserves it.
So the final cast is as follows:
Lysander: Attolia
Demitrius: Telius
Helena: Costis
Hermia: Eugenides
Puck: Eddis
Oberon: Sophos
Titania: Nahuseresh
Bottom: the Magus
I think those roles offer enough hilarity by themselves and I may post little scenes with how I think the characters would act in them, but that's all my opinion. What do you guys think? Who should play whom? How would the characters react? Is this all just a waste of the community's time? I eagerly await your thoughts!

Hahahahaha...aw man, I don't think I can convey to you how funny that line was. Wow. LOL.
I've only read MSND once, and I pretty much gave up trying to understand it when the play-within-a-play started (it was before I had ever actually studied Shakespeare and basically had no clue how to read/understand him), so I'm afraid I can't totally follow what you've done here...but the gender reversal alone rules. Also, Costis love. (Agape and/or Ileia for Demitrius, maybe instead of poor Teleus?
Unless you made say, Relius Helena...I have GOT to get this random Teleus/Relius shipping out of my head. *shoves blame onto Rowana, flees*)</strikeno subject

In the audiobook of KoA, Teleus's and Relius's names rhymed, and I thought that was pretty cute at the time.
