King of Attolia is notably different from the other books. A different artist drew the pictures; the paper is different, although still much nicer than the US version; the pages are glued, not stitched; there is no vellum. There are still the wonderful chapter icons, however.

(there seems to be a re-occurring theme of grapes in KoA; wonder why?)

Note the fibula pins, the signet ring, and the disc (top, center) is, I think, the coin he was playing with.

Date: 10/28/07 07:02 pm (UTC)Do we know what the flowers are? I only ask because flowers are still pretty important in Japanese culture, and I am sure the artist chose them for a reason. On Vol 2 here, they look like white orchids--generally a sign of rare/delicate beauty--to me, and are those grapes on Vol 1 (or something similar to a muscadine?). Vol 1 of QoA looks like it has a species of purple orchid on the back, and the flowers on Vol 2 look like some sort of lilly. And Thief has got some sort of berry on the back as well. I guess I'm focusing on these because they interest me more than pictures of the characters...and they are so well drawn.

I'm having trouble with the ordering form, will they ship it to other countries?

*manages not to fangirl as crazily this time*
XD
Thanks for posting the pictures!

Date: 10/31/07 01:08 am (UTC)But I'm wondering about that very Celtic harp on the spine and cloak fibula (yes, I know they had fibula pins in Sounis/Greece too, but that one looks Irish to me). Strange. Why don't publishers in this country put this much energy into their books?? I like the way Attolia only takes up half of her throne - seems like an open invitation to someone.
I know you probably told us this in the music post, but what exactly is on your Sounis mix? I'm curious what people ended up choosing.
