[identity profile] sandtree.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] queensthief
Okay, I know that this has been discussed and discussed and discussed again, and then discussed some more, but I finally got the paperback of KoA today and read the Eddis short story (I'm a bit slow), so it got me thinking (dangerous).

My point is, it seems we basically have an answer for the age of Eugenides now, right? Because the short story says there's a five year age difference between him and Eddis, and if he's ten in that other short story in which Eddis is about to become Queen (which I've never actually read, so I could be off), and in The Thief, Eddis has been Queen for five years, then Eugenides is fifteen in The Thief, and Eddis is twenty.

My OTHER reason for posting, is, I just noticed that in QoA, Eddis tells Eugenides to steal peace, and Attolia's name (Irene), means peace, and he steals her. This was probably completely obvious to everyone but me, but like I said... slow. XD

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled... stuff.

Yay! I bought the paperback KoA in Chicago with Victoria and still haven't actually read the short story. Not because I didn't want to, either. I was waiting for the perfect night when I could curl up in bed and read it, and obviously those don't really happen while I'm in school. And then I forgot.

I really need to ask Rowana to send me the Disney Adventures story. I believe she is the keeper of it.

See, this challenges my cherished notion that Eugenides is seventeen in The Thief, though. Because then he would be my age, which is why it's especially imperative that I re-read before the year is over. :D

As to Irene meaning peace - yeah, I noticed that right away. XD Sorry, Alison. I'll use the Ron icon to make it up to you.

Ah, but if he were 15 in The Thief, he might be 17 in QoA. Which is just as exciting, isn't it?

the other part of the Irene = Peace equation was Eddis scoffing at being named Helen => Helen of Troy, the face a war was fought over. Yet Sounis went to war in order to make Eddis his queen, and Gen refused to side with Attolia because of his loyalty and love for Eddis.

LOL about the age comment! As soon as I read the story I sent Megan a note saying (besides now wonderful the story was) that it was quite sneaky of her to make the students do maths over their holidays, since every one would immediately be adding ages and dates together to figure out how old Gen was in Thief. :D

Yes, Magus/Helen is pretty awfully established. This is a clear indication you should listen to the nonsense in your head more often. And share it with the rest of us. By which I mean I want to read your Nano when you're done. :D

Regarding Helen and the war, HA! That more subtle point went right past me. Thank you for that piece of enlightenment.

Well, but if he had been 17 in The Thief, then I can re-read every year until the new one comes out and be the same age as him at different stages! And then when the new one comes out it will keep going! Whereas I read them for the first time at 16, so Eugenides being 15 in The Thief is unacceptable. 16 I could live with. :P

Besides, I have more qualms about being the same age as Eugenides in QoA, because that means if I'm living through him vicariously with the age and re-read thing, I would have to vicariously get my hand cut off. I'm not prepared for that yet.

Oh yes. But we knew that already. :D

Now I really want to use my 'It'll be romantic, I swear' joke. But I can't figure out how to work it in. I need an icon with that joke. Do you even know which one I'm talking about?

Well, that's why when we discovered we were destined to operate as a pair, you were Queen and I was King. Because, among other things, I'm shorter and you have pierced ears.

Oh wow. See...I didn't get the point about Helen OR the one about Irene. I must just be really slow...

Or out a window! :D

I need to write my Nano first. I should be doing homework right now, but if not that, I should at least be writing...!

I'm totally psyched for Sophos to come back all buff and unfortunate-posterior. XD I want there to be some sort of caped masked man who swoops in out of nowhere to rescue someone from great danger and then stands on the city walls, tears off his mask, and cries 'Behold, for I am Sophos!'

I should send Megan a letter requesting this scene.

Do you eat fat or lean? I favour lean, but clearly we need to pick our balanced sides.

That's okay, there's actually very little way you could've known the joke. It's taken me a bit to find it, but now I have! So here it is. I was having a conversation with Victoria in one of our journals, months ago now, and we both said we had to go eat, or something like that. So I said:

"Well, tell you what. I'll just traipse off to my dinner, brood a lot, and be snappish at my servants. You can go sob in the dungeon. Then I'll come back and listen to you sob for like three days straight. ... It'll be romantic, I swear."

Times like these I really wish I had retained the icon you're using right now. I think I need to steal it from you again.

YAY. :D

When Sophos comes back all suave and debonair I think Eugenides will recognise a man after his own heart, throw himself at him, and demand that they become blood brothers. XD

Well actually he wouldn't be into blood rituals, but I couldn't think of a better way of putting it. Irene wouldn't let him participate in blood rituals. I think she'd kill him if she found out he had cut himself on purpose.

But oh man, would I love to be Helen in that situation. This is pretty heretical of me, but I actually find the idea of Sophos the Masked Avenger almost as hot as Gen himself. Well, semi-almost. The big advantage is that he's not married to someone awesome whom I wouldn't really want to oust or be. I could stand to be Eddis and married to Sophos the Caped Wonder.

Don't forget all the rest! Like where she wants to kill him after he threatens to kill her! And the penchant she has for slapping him. And when she slaps his head into the doorframe. And the nightmares he has.

I can think of few things more romantic than having nightmares that my lover is going to torture me and waking up screaming. The only thing more romantic than that would be having them based on actual threats and previous experience.

Actually despite all of this I honestly think Gen and Irene do have an incredibly romantic relationship. XD It's just a little baffling as to why, considering. But it's because of all that, you know? Because they love each other so much and they're actually really sweet together even though she cut off his hand and etc.

No, how appropriate!
