Sorry for the double post, but the two subjects are dissimilar enough to merit their own discussions.

I am continuing my great post-CoK reread of the series. This time: QoA.

My first comment go along with the quote "'Eugenides'--he heard her cool voice through the agony--'have I exceeded the restraints of tradition? Have I offended the gods?" and he heard someone whisper with his voice, "No, Your Majesty" (32, 2006 ed.)

I always assumed that Gen said those last three words. He easily could have. He is ill and in shock, which can do funny things to the way people think and react. But on this reread it occurred to me that it could easily be Eugenides the God hijacking his mouth to relay to Attolia that she is conforming with the gods' plans for the countries of Attolia, Eddis, and Sounis. Which way do you prefer to read it?

My next observation is on the use of the word hook. I may return to this as I continue my reread. It is used on page 46 to describe the way Gen's screams sound. Do you think this was used with any intent at for shadowing?
