Hi guys. This is my first post ever, so I'll give a quick intro: I've basically been a lurker here for a few years now, with only about three comments to my name. Some of you may know me as the choreographer of and a dancer(as Gen) in "The Amphora," which checkers linked to awhile ago. Anyways, I fell in love with this series when I happened upon QoA at my local library, and I don't think I've put it down since.

Now, for the real post. For awhile now I've been pondering over Gen and his stealthy walking: whether it's really possible, how he does it, etc. Why? Because I'm a dancer, and and I find the way feet work to be a fascinating thing. Anyways, the answers I've come up with are interesting (at least to me) and I wanted to share and get others' thoughts on the matter. To start with I figured Gen almost definitely wears flat, soft-soled boots (it may have been stated or implied in the books, I can't remember for certain.) However, this got me thinking of something else: if Gen is always wearing these types of boots, he probably has foot and ankle problems. There's just no shock absorption or arch support (did that even exist back then?). Flats are also heavy on the heel, which can lead to plantar fasciitas, the same problem faced by those who constantly wear flip flops. I suppose, though, it's also probable that his boots are cushioned in some way. And, I'm probably just be over-thinking this due to my own ankle problems when wearing flats. As for Gen's stealthy walking style, I think he supinates his feet. For those of you unfamiliar with this term, it means to place the weight of the body on the outside part of the foot. I found that when trying it myself, it was easier to do more of a role down from heel to toe when supinating. I also think he keeps his toes grounded for as long as possible when he walks. I'm sorry if I'm not properly explaining it. I also considered the possibility of him walking on the ball of his foot (tiptoe), but  that has always made more noise when I have done it personally. Finally he could have just received the ability as a gift from his god. Am I crazy?

Lastly, I have a little something I've been working on something to share with you all:
So I'm kind of a fashionista at heart (granted, it doesn't always show), and lately I've been reading a blog that does fashion inspired by various things like movies, paintings, broadway, etc. Just for fun I decided to do my own collection inspired by the various covers of the books and with some details I remembered. Here's the link to the looks:

As you'll notice, these are (hopefully) practical and modern versions of the looks found on the covers. Obviously I had to fill in the blanks with some of them, but I think they all turned out pretty well. I think the one inspired by KoA's cover was the only I really stretched on. It was fun adding the little details into the jewelery. Comments? Questions?
