Dubious Fan-Artistry

My contributions to fandom tend to be a little bizarre.
 I like to write "filk" rock, tribute songs to Lord of the Rings and other fantasy favorites (including 2 Queen's Thief songs we're still finishing producing...but soon!)

I also spin. I've made yarn tributing Haku of Spirited Away, Laputa of Castle in the Sky, Hans Christian Andersons Steadfast Tin Soldier (the Ballerina)...
 I blog about them (as well as posting them to Etsy) at Wordpress.


Under River Aracthus I made from a gift of dyed wool. When I racked my brain about what it reminded me of, it struck me:
"That god! In the Temple!"
Oceanus's robe, in the watertones of his domain. I think he's the one who checks to be sure Gen hasn't left a spot?

I used a wheel to spin the three strands together.

I spun each strand on a light-weight spindle, though. (The spindle's a pencil stuck through a Mason Jar lid. ^_^)

I was given the roving already dyed; it was "hand-painted" I think, so it had more variation in color which produces the subtle shades--and yes. It was gorgeous when I got it. I have almost nothing to do with it, really...

My "real spindles" are dowel-rods, eye-hooks, and toy wheels, all available in the hobby section...

They have a deucedly frustrating way of slipping down despite being glued when dropped on a hard surface, though (my bedroom floor's concrete). It just occurred to me that it may be time to upgrade...
