Eddis, Attolia, Sounis

I just really hopes that Eddis doesn't have to marry Sounis. And I hope we get to learn more about Eddis in the next book and that she earns her name like Irene did.

I don't think Sophos is dead. I think Gen is being extra special cunning and is hiding Sophos somewhere until he's safe from civil unrest and his uncle. Because with Sophos dead, Eddis will have to marry Sounis and he could produce heirs that way. The bastard.

Gen's plan for Costis is to send him to protect Sophos. ~~Then Sophos and Costis fall in love.~~ And Sophos and Costis both have to use what they've learned from Gen to escape danger and intrigue and plots within plots.

You know, it would be really cool if some of our resident artists could draw Nahuseresh. I'd love to see that red beard on an extremely attractive man. Can't quite picture it.

I wish I could draw, because I'd definitely draw Nahuseresh. He's one of my favourite characters to picture. Actually, if I could draw, I'd go crazy and draw all the characters, because I have such clear pictures of them in my mind. Alas. :( Of course, I wouldn't need to draw the magus:

Kamet afraid? Where do you get that from? I think it's more of a respectful revrence for Nahuseresh's power.

And sure, maybe Nahuseresh isn't hawt sex, but there are things that make a person more sexy than good looks ever could. Power, for instance, is sext to some people. (Why else would anyone ever want George W.?)

I'd be afraid if the man who owned me, and had the power of life and death over me, said, "Sprite, I would very much like to strangle someone right now. Why don't you go away so it isn't you."

Granted, Kamet never says he's afraid, so maybe I'm just projecting my own feelings here. And he did rescue Nahuseresh at the end of QoA. (And what thanks did he get? Nahuseresh decided not to strangle him. I hate that man.)

You know, we've discussed Phresine's story as it relates to Gen, but it can also relate to Nahuseresh and Kamet. N has not freed his slave, and he doesn't deal fairly with others. When he comes to another crisis point someday, will Kamet hit him over the head with an amphora? I'm not so sure.

If Gen were just were being awesome hand hiding Sophos, that would be really cool, but isn't there a part in KoA where Gen is very woried as to Sophos' wheabouts? It would be a toatally Gen-like thing to do though...

I think that's an interesting idea about Gen, but if he were hiding Sophos, why wouldn't he tell Irene? Or Eddis? It would suck if Eddis had to marry Sounis, but it would be more realistic than Sophos popping up from nowhere. Maybe.

Also, what was going on with the Magus and Helen in the last book?

I was totally surprised that the Magus called Helen by her first name, especially since she didn't call him by his. He obviously admires her as a gifted leader, but I think personally he thinks of her as the daughter he never had. That's my take, anyway.

In the advance copy of KoA, there is a line about the Magus and Helen that says something like, "and they had grown very fond of each other." It's not in the hardback.

I didn't get the impression there was anything other than respect and friendship. Although the Magus could do a lot worse. :)

Gen? Telling people things? I have no doubt that Gen will find a way to keep Eddis from marrying Sounis, without revealing one little bit of his plan. And even if he isn't the one hiding Sophos and doesn't know where he is, I've no doubt that he'd never let Eddis marry Sounis without being absolutely sure that Sophos was dead.

But I think you're right about the being unwilling to look favourably on the marriage unless Sophos was definitely dead.

Well, in this case, hiding Sophos could cause further unrest in Sounis (and if it doesn't I'm sure Gen could provoke further unrest), which might bring the Mede over unasked and Sounis will have to ally with Eddis and Attolia without a marriage just to get the Mede off his shores and the Powers That Be on the Continent will see that the Mede will stop at nothing to get there hands on the countries of Eddis, Attolia and Sounis and will finally step in and help and will forever after prevent the Medes from returning.
