Fanfic Challenge Ideas?

I've been thinking that it would be fun to have a fanfiction challenge for this community. Everyone would write an entry and then we would vote on which one is the best entry. The prize? A fanfiction drabble written by me using any prompt chosen by the winner. (Sorry it's not much of a prize.)

Problem is I can't decide which would be a good theme for the challenge. Here's what I came up with so far:

AU/Alternative Universes- For those not familiar, this means either writing an alternative version of the story, like say what would have happened if Gen's hand wasn't cut off, or setting the characters in an alternative universe/setting, like put the characters in a pirate setting, or maybe even in a modern setting.

Gods/Myths- Either fanfics about the Gods or maybe using the Queen Thief characters to retell a story.

Minor characters-Writing a fic on some of the less popular or minor characters.

Family- Writing about the families of the Queen Thief characters, including possible future ones if you wanted. (Ex: Irene and Gen having children, etc)


And that's all I came up with so far. So what do you guys think? Would you be interested in taking part? If so, do you like any of these themes or do you have another idea that you would like to suggest. I'm open to suggestions.

Ahh... My Dinner With the Princess of Attolia fic would fit right into the family category. I think it's a great idea, but I need enough time to finish it and get it betaed.

I'd like to read some good QT AU, though. As far as I can tell, there isn't any.

Don't worry, I plan to give everyone plenty of time to write. I have a few fanfics myself that won't be done for a month because I'm waiting for my beta readers to have spare time.

Hmm...maybe we could have two theme floating around, or do one now and another one around Christmas time or something. ^_~

You could also always ask if people wanted to offer prizes for this sort of thing (first, second, third), so that way there will be a greater chance of more people getting things.

I'm in favor of Family or Minor Characters, myself (especially because the gods, while being v. important, are sort of minor compared to other characters).

I would say that we do have a fic comm--queensthief_fic, so maybe you could organize it here, have everyone post their fics there, and then just do one master post with all the fics and the poll--that way, this comm doesn't get too cluttered up with fic, because I know there are people here who aren't really into that whole aspect of fandom. :-)

Hey, good idea with the suggestion of prizes. It would probably be along the lines of icons, fanfics, or pieces of fanart.

*nods* I was toying with the idea of doing that since the fanfic community would be a better place to post the fics. Plus, as you said, it would be more organized.

This sounds cool. I will attempt something, whatever theme you pick (I vote AU personally), and then clap myself on the back because it will be the third fanfic I've ever finished. The other two were when I was 14. I'm hoping I've grown somewhat since then.

Writing challenges are a good way to get you motivated to write fics. I think what I might do will be to do the AU challenge now, but do a second writing challenge around the holidays using the family theme. (It would be a good theme for that time of year.)

I like all of those categories, actually. I have an idea for one, a partial fic that would fit nicely into another, and I'm sure I could come up with something (I'd at at least try very hard) for any other category.

And I think a fic challenge would be super fun.

Thanks. The way things are going, I'm thinking of doing one challenge now and then do a second challenge around the holidays. That way, if people can't do this first challenge, they can do the second challenge.

Sounds like so much fun! I would definitely try to get an entry in. If you do one near the holidays, there should be a holiday/winter theme.

(Does not have ulterior motives. Or a fic that takes place during the winter just waiting to be finished.)

I'm thinking that we can have two challenges, one for now and one for November-December. I'm thinking of doing the family theme for the second challenge since that would be a good theme for the holidays. (No reason that winter couldn't be involved though. ^_~)

Okaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, but how does it work? I hate writing, but I love to read. Will I be able to read all the fics, even if I don't write any??

yes! if you look at the next page, she talks about how she's going to set up the links to the fics, which will all be at the fic comm anyway.
