I give thanks for this community. :)

Where else could I find a community of fans who intelligently discuss a series, delving into hidden meanings and character analyses, with awesome comics and other goodies thrown in along the way? I mean, most other communities are heavy on the fan but light on the intelligence. (Edward! No, Jacob! No, Edward!... Sigh.)

I usually lurk, but I hope all you posters know that I read nearly each and every one of your snarky, smart, and scrumptious comments each week.

Best,
A Fan of the Fans.

Aww! You should delurk more often and come out and play. We're really all quite nice and fun. :D

Megan is so awesome even her fans have fans! Your welcome, and thanks for de-lurking.

Would you rather have you daughter marry a vampire or a werewolf?

Neither...

Don't get me started on the intelligence of the Twi. fanatic fandom. You don't see me sending death threats to Emma Roberts's Twitter, do you? Yeah, there was that thing with Greenwillow... But I had no idea they'd actually see it!

Many comms are larger, but not nearly as active in my opinion. I've never found another comm that really discusses its media of worship the way QT fans do. Then again... As for the snark... My snarky commentaries are necessary outlets for my sense of humor. If don't write it here, it shows up in my schoolwork, which does not go over as well.

"Media of Worship"

Loving the word already!

Hahaha, I know what you mean, it's rare to find book fans today who aren't part of the Jacob/Edward cat fight >.<

Yay for delurking, I look forward to reading your intelligent comments in future posts!!!

Welcome to Sounis! It's great to have you here! I swear I commented already, but apparently I failed.

Welcome and glad to have you! And now this is the place where I can leave this link:

http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2010/11/19/critical-thinking-vs-critical-acclaim-where-have-all-the-comments-gone/

It's about comments on the Internet in general, and how the quality of discussion has degenerated, and possible reasons why.

The only thing I could think of as I was reading it was, well, this guy's never been to Sounis :)

That article speaks the truth...honestly, especially in fandoms of large sizes. Twilight is the perfect example...as well as some anime fandoms in which all you get for your work is a comment full of squeeing (not that there's anything too wrong with that).

I think a lot of fandom is meant to be collective squeeing, unless the canon work holds up to closer scrutiny. And the internet was never really a "let's analyze Faulkner" sort of place.

Although I must say that now that there are rumors of a Great Gatsby remake, I'm finding the most intelligent posts on The Great Gatsby in the most random places!

It's why I love this comm - you have outrageous/hilarious and intelligent side by side for whatever mood you're in.

It's what makes this fandom really great...I mean, squeeing is found in abundance here as well but I see us as a very talented, intelligent and sensible (this adjective can be subjected to many definitions). The thing we fandom over in itself makes more sense than other fandoms all in all...and we're all insanely creative enough to attach just the right amount of craziness to canon. I hope I'm still making sense... :))

Yep, you are :) and I completely agree. I hate to say that I judge people by what they read, because it makes me sound like a total book snob, but someone that likes, say Twilight, vs someone who likes MWT? I'm probably going to find it easier to talk to (or even respect) the MWT fan. (Whatever that says about me. *shrug* I like the smart people and smart conversation here.)

I guess it just goes to show that you can learn a lot about a person from their book choices. To be fair, it is harder to find an MWT fan because, unlike Twilight, the QT series hasn't become a fad. And it's actually nicer that way since you know which people actually like the book and who just say they like the book because of its popularity.

In short, being an MWT fan is awesome. Sorry for taking the topic and making it so much longer :| :))

Who? Me? Ridiculous in behavior? Never.

Well I wasn't implying anything at all, thank you...perhaps you're paranoid for a reason, Lady Jane...

I have no idea what you are talking about. I bounce back and forth on those rubber walls because it's fun. NOT because I'm crazy. Ugh, now I sound like Parker.

Remain as constructive as possible so the conversation doesn’t get derailed. There is no use in belittling or insulting the points presented even if you disagree with them, especially if you are interested in actual dialog or in getting the author to rethink a position. This does assume that our intention, as readers, is to expand on the ideas presented; if we feel we cannot reasonably or respectfully contribute to the dialog, we should just move along without leaving any comment.

Somebody put that on YouTube's main page! And Yahoo News too! Please? People too frequently use the internet to simply be hostile and well... mean. You can disagree with someone. That doesn't mean you need to insult their intelligence and emotional state.

Thank you, Beth! You're right. Sounis would blow this guy's mind. Someone give him a link. *nudge, nudge*

YES. I also think that insulting instead of counter-arguing just proves the strength of the original argument, because the insulter cannot disprove it and that's why he/she resorts to belittling.

(Thanks, OP, for letting me hijack this thread :)

Don't I know it. I'm just tired of reading intelligent articles on Yahoo and then finding 80% of the comment say

dumb

The writer is a biased idiot.

Etc... Nonsense! Nonsense! Everything you say is nonsense! You can tell I'm mad when I quote The ImportanceoBE.

And I think I'm really happy Yahoo isn't my homepage.

My e-mail is Yahoo, so I read the articles sometimes. I like the articles just not the comments.

YouTube is worse. I rarely find a YT comment that doesn't offend me in the language department.
