Some interesting comments about the romance in The Queen of Attolia from author Mette Harrison's blog.  She has mentioned Megan's books before, too, when discussing romance in books, and great main characters.

I like how she said they are better together than they are apart. That, in my opinion, is the key to making any romance work. Gen and Irene do exemplify it well.

I agree! I teared up at that sentence. It reminds me of The Three Musketeers, or really Twenty Years After, where the narrator says that D'Artagnan had changed, not the man he would've been had he and the three stayed together.
