There are perhaps more of these, but I've just moved to a new city, and name of this little place on my block has struck me so forcibly that I'm ending a rather long period of lurking (due to an absolutely crazy summer) to share.

(Hope the image is small enough not to make anyone's computer cry.)

That's right: it's The Dancing Bear Pub.

It's obviously a shout-out to the local university (which I attend), whose mascot is a bear.  But...it just makes me smile, every time.  Dancing bears.

Any other Gen sightings lately?

Welcome to Sounis!! I'm glad you de-lurked, I'm pretty new myself :)

I think that even though Gen's King, he's STILL playing the dancing bear - not that he doesn't enjoy every bit of the attention!

You know what...I spent four years at that university, and never made that connection. I'm a bad Sounisian. D:

It's fun to know that other Sounisians have been in this area, though.

It is! I'm kind of sad I'm no longer around there, because I would have loved to meet you (you have to be awesome, if you're in Sounis!). I tried to organize a meet-up in the general area once, but only one other person seemed to be around.

Anyway, enjoy the school, and definitely go in and check the pub out! I never actually went inside there, though the restaurant next door is pretty good.

Welcome back! My gosh, that's AWESOME!!! I don't have any sightings, but I should've named Gryphon (our new pup) Eugenides. He's a thief. He cannot stand when Jackson or Zeus has a toy. He will steal it. It doesn't matter if he has 20 toys in front of him; if they have toys, he will steal.

Oh my goodness!! I have a black labrador named Zeus! What breed is your Zeus? We also have a black lab named Chloe, and she's just as clumsy and talkative as Irene's attendent - the funny thing is, it wasn't until after we named her that we remembered Chloe the attendent and noticed how similar they were!!

Our Zeus is an old hound mix. Something either shepherd-y or husky-y since he's got a nasty double coat that blows. He rocks. At 13, he's the elderly uncle to Jackson, who's a year and a few months, and Gryphon, who's just about 10 months old. He plays with them and runs with them, and keeps them in line. They are all rescue dogs, and Zeus had 3 owners before my brother got him.

AWWWWWWW, they sound cute! We have three puppies, and they're all rescues too! And our Zeus got bounced around between owners before we got him also. Yay for rescue dogs with happy endings!!

Oh, they're all hysterical. Zeus is deaf as a post, and Gryphon will bark and whine at him until I'm ready to scream; and Jackson and Zeus will chase the cats all over creation, and Gryphon and Jackson play hide-and-seek around the kitchen island every day, in between digging up shrubs and trees. I don't feel like Eddis, but more like a combination of Costis, MoW and Teleus, maybe. Quite a bit of Costis in there, I think. A lot of helplessness. A lot. But I have to laugh; otherwise I'd be sobbing.

<3 That's great did you go inside to check if they served watered wine? Or if it was perhaps very similar to the tavern Gen n Sophos visited in CoKs, with hooded, cloaked visitors n all??

HI! No Gen spottings, but I did spot (Hurricane) Irene moving up the coast! She must be really mad at Gen!!

Lol, me too!!! And coincidentally, my mother's name is Irene too and she was making such a fuss about a storm being named after her.

I have to admit, I saw Hurricane Irene and thought, "Attolia!" Which is both amusing and sad.

Ha! Me too, i heard "Hurricane Irene" and I was like "Hey that's Attolia!" (and then I proceeded to get many strange looks from those around me) *goes and hides in a corner*

Dancing bear! This wouldn't be in the Berkeley area would it? (If you're comfortable sharing the general location, that is.) UC Berkeley's mascot is a golden bear.

Awesome locale to share! Perhaps you will have to arrange a ThiefCon once you have scoped out the premises. :)

I myself am de-lurking after a decidedly non-digital summer, and a concerted effort on LiveJournal's part to keep sgwordy OUT! I am still unclear on what I did to anger LJ but I have finally vanquished the forces of Evil (stupid Medes were probably behind it) and have found my way back.

Thank you! And if you arrange your ThiefCon during one of the times I'm visiting Texas count me in! :)

Obviously you need to visit this put & vanquish some meads, instead. ;) Best of all, if there's a Thiefcon, you can write it up, & we can enjoy it.

Welcome back!

Oh lovely idea! Mede/Mead vanquishing ought to be a group activity. :)
