Yes, this post deserves three !'s and I will tell you why! I was minding my own business at the gas station when I decided to buy a drink-of the fruit juice variety-and right there inside the cap this is what it said:

Fact #737

Did you know mountain goats are not actually goats?

NO.

In fact they are actually antelope.

*GASP*

That's right!!! Mountain goats are ANTELOPE..in disguise! Just like a CERTAIN GOAT FOOT WE KNOW (andlove) was this a master plan that MWT had known all along? Is this symbolic to Gen's tricky two sided nature?! Is Gen actually an antelope hoof instead of a goat foot? Do antelope baa and bleet? Am I an overly obessive fan?! #thequestions!

Plus I want someone to make a witty joke, involving Irene, Antelope and Elope. xD

////This is my first post in on Sounis in a while! Missed you guys =D

Ah, hahaha! That's wonderful! They're sneaky liars, just like Gen. I wish I could get cool Snapple caps like that, Elle! Mine are always much less interesting.

I'm quoting this word-for-word from Wikipedia, the article entitled Mountain goat: The mountain goat is an even-toed ungulate of the order Artiodactyla and the family Bovidae that includes antelopes, gazelles, and cattle. It belongs to the subfamily Caprinae (goat-antelopes), along with thirty-two other species including true goats, sheep, the chamois, and the musk ox. The mountain goat is the only species in the genus Oreamnos. The name Oreamnos is derived from the Greek term oros (stem ore-) "mountain" (or, alternatively, oreas "mountain nymph") and the word amnos "lamb".

1. They are the only species in their genus---one of a kind! Just like a certain someone...
2. Their name is derived from Greek (like most biological classifications, I know, but still!) for "mountain" and "lamb" which is just perfect considering how good Gen is at imitating lambs while climbing staircases up mountains.
3. I noticed horses are not members of Bovidae. Further research reveals that they aren't a member of Artiodactyla, either, being odd-toed and not even-toed. So they are as distant from horses as it is possible to get within the ungulates i.e. hoofed mammals! Which is, I'm sure, where Eugenides would want to be.

Biology as a metaphor for QT = win.

That is hilarious and perfect! It was truly the Snapple Of Fate.

The "oreamnos" bit in Drashizu's comment automatically made me think of Ornon, for no good reason other than he's the ambassador from the mountains and has two o's, an r, and an n in his name. Still, what can you do?

Overly obsessive fan? What's that? Never met an overly obsessive fan in my life. :)

This is funny! Yet another example of Gen fooling us all into thinking he's something he isn't.

Thanks for sharing, Elle, Welcome back!

O. M. G......

Is there banishment in this comm, Chex? Oh, I guess not, or Leslie would have been long gone for bad puns, right?

You and I cantaloupe , but oh, honeydew!

*signs up for banishment list*

Under that logic, I should also be long gone for that Lady Gaga joke! XD

Refresh my memory? (wait, do I really want to go there?)

Also, you went from the Animal Kingdom to the Plant Kingdom in that last pun there. Try to stay focused, dear lady jane.

Actually, it's all in the plant kingdom. Cantaloupe as in the melon. Honeydew is another melon. C'antelope is without the "U".

It seems to be a common joke in Wisconsin, or maybe it's just my family...

No, no, that I understand, I just meant we went from goats to melons, in general. I know they're both melons. We just bounded away from the goats there for a minute. And yes, I'm familiar with that wacky Wisconsin sense of humor as my father's family was from there...'nuff said, ahem. Puns abounded, growing up. Not that puns only hail from Wisconsin.

Keh... :) Unfortunately, the melon pun was passed around my house so much (my mother frequently made fruit salad with dinner) that I can't hear the word elope without thinking about it. In other words, it's one of those associations that probably makes more sense in my head!

Puns exist everywhere, but in Wisconsin, it's almost a religion. We have more bars named The Crowbar (with little pictures of crows on the sign) than we have main streets! XD It's so awful, but there's no escaping the madness!

Also, if someone says to me, "Take all the dam pictures you want." in regards to the historic Wisconsin River dams, I will find an ink pot to throw at their head. Same goes for the glacier carved rock formation (http://www.beletti.com/travel/080405/piano_rock_sm.jpg) that looks like a piano. "It still plays some hard rock." *head desk*

So you know this poem, then?

Do you carrot all for me?
My heart beets for you.
With you turnip nose
And your radish face,
You are a peach.
If we cantaloupe,
Lettuce marry.
Weed make a swell pear.

It's by one of the anonymice of history, but I learned it from my 4th grade teacher.

Let's see... (don't worry, it's perfectly clean)

How do you make Lady Gaga cry?

POKE HER FACE!

Ahem... Yes, it's bad. My brother's fault, and I keep on spreading it around. Even his wife complains about his frequent bad jokes. XD They have a little comedy routine about it for entertaining guests!

Yes, it's bad. That part I agree with.

Is there banishment in this comm, Chex? Oh, I guess not, or Leslie would have been long gone for bad puns, right?

If puns led to banishment, Leslie would have been sent to the peninsula long ago. However, no matter how groan-worthy, clever puns point to keen intelligence, and we know that Sounisians have that in spades. Bottom Line: we will not only keep the punsters, we will encourage them to continue to inundate us with limericks, parodies, and insulting poems in iambic pentameter. That way we can keep not only Leslie, but Dite, too.

Another question--can antelopes produce the warm, soft wool necessary for Eddisian underwear?

*goes to add the "underwear" tag to this post*

Cuz the underwear tag rocks.

Wool for underwear is probably from the lambs among Ornon's lost sheep.

lol I love it. I've never heard it before

And to think, all this started with one little book. Do you think MWT factored us into her ripple effect calculations? "Hmm, let's see. I'll start with a Newberry worthy masterpiece and end somewhere with 300 reprobates and hairy underwear."

I love you, Sounis.

So, Gen's really a gazelle-foot. Obviously, those lowlanders got hold of a lame translation. Silly lowlanders.
