Does anyone else ever have those moments when the Thief series intersects something completely unrelated in your thoughts and all of a sudden that other thing suddenly makes more sense? I just had one of those.

I love Tolkien (ok, everybody loves Tolkien) and so I've been working on an elf costume for the Hobbit premiere in December. I was looking for something a little different from the looks I'd seen before, so I was looking at fan art of elves from the Silmarillion, especially Luthien. And it got me thinking.

Every time I saw a picture of her dancing, I disliked it. None of them seemed right to me at all. And then I saw one that had her dancing silently, eyes closed, almost solemn under the stars, and I though, OMG ATTOLIA.

Seriously, does this happen to other people?

Yes! I even have the occasional strange QT dream XD Yesterday we were watching The Phantom of the Opera and for some reason every time I see Madame Giry, I think of Phresine...

With me, it happens sometimes with other people's behavior. See, I'm about as opposite from Gen as a person could be. It just never used to occur to me that someone's actions--actions that seem perfectly innocent--might be from ulterior motives. Because Gen does it so well, it made me aware enough to think through what someone may really be thinking

My co-worker and I have gotten really good at asking very innocent, innocuous questions that appear to be small talk, but are really are meant to get the scoop on things that are going on in the building that we've heard about but don't have any details on. It's amazing what people will tell you, if you just have the nerve to ask.

YES this has happened to me! (sorta) I was at a class and there was a new kid. Something about him was bothering me (in the way where you sorta know someone, but not quite, and augh) and so I was watching him creepily and then I realised that he was the exact match of my mental image of Sophos! It made me happy, and he is foreven in my mind "the Sophos kid"

Okay, so can I just say that when I read the title of your post I immediately thought of the Danny Kaye song 'The Best Things Happen When You Dance' and now it's stuck in my head. :D "For dancing soon becomes romancing..."

Sometimes the people in our head are uncomfortably real. Driving up to the Baltimore WorldCon, we drove through Maryland, the setting for lots of Barbara Michaels & Elizabeth Peters novels. Lots of squee ensued.

That trip was the first time I met any Bujold listies, one of whom looked exactly like my image of a character. I almost ran up and hugged him on the spot. He still talks about that one [but at least spells my name correctly, so that's all good].
