Okay, so I was thinking about Sophos in aCoKs and then almost randomly and immediately i thought of....

ANDREW GARFIELD

Can anyone else see him as a tortured Sophos? Okay I know he's not blonde, but I feel like he would just be SOo good at it. And his scenes with Eddis... and the sisters and GEN? COMEON ;-) Imayormaynotbetotallycrushingonhimrightnow

If he were a bit younger, I'd so go for it. He's got the vulnerable emotionality down pat.

But I can't even believe him as a high school Peter Parker, so Sophos is def. out of the question.*

*it doesn't help that I first saw him as a college student in The Social Network, back when he was the right age to be an actual college student.

I feel all special and in-the-loop, because as of last week, I now actually know what the Tardis IS. :D Haha

Haha, he's got the Sophos-y slightly bewildered look down XD You know, they say that there are three types of people in this world: Those who make things happen, those who watch what happens, and those who wonder what happened.....Sophos would definitely fall into that last category!

You know, I could actually see him pulling off Eugenides. Not because he looks right (he should be brown-skinned. I wonder how he would look with long hair?), but because he's a really good actor. He's very physical and conveys stuff with his expression/body all the time, even when he's not saying lines --kind of like James Dean. He plays the character beyond the script. I think an actor who played Gen would have to have that quality.

And also building up mannerisms. His Peter Parker is twitchy. I think Gen would have to have a way of moving that's entirely his own - like the way he tries to be graceful in the Thief and the guards holding his arms mess it up :P

And it would have to be an incredibly subtle balancing act between conveying what Gen wants to convey, and hinting at what Gen really feels. But without being obvious. I think he could do that.

I really wouldn't want them to whitewash Gen though.

This. Plus, I'd really like an all-unknowns cast!

Me too.

I find alternative films are often able to find the most amazing, amazing "unknowns" --especially children, for some reason (Son of Rambow would be a good example, although some of the kids in that went on to act in more mainstream features. Same with Winter's Bone). I would hope for a cast of those calibres.

Huh. I think he's too old now (about 30, right?) but he would have been a good choice. I used to think Charlie Hunnam would be good, but again, now too old.

Right now in my imaginary mind movie I tend to see Aaron Taylor Johnson as Sophos. I don't love him as an actor, but he certainly has the physical characteristics and is the correct age for the character.

And sort of OT, but I have to ask: where in any of the QT books is it indicated that Eugenides has brown skin? I've always pictured him (in that imaginary mind movie again) as dark haired and [possibly but not exclusively] dark-eyed, but I also see him as having pale olive skin (or even just pale skin). That's why anyone from the young James McAvoy to Robert Sheehan to Diego Boneta have always seemed like viable living Eugenides-es to me. Am I wrong?

Ooh, I like Robert Sheehan! Especially the hair. ;)

I don't know... I don't think it's ever all that specific about it, but I think it mentions the Eddisians being darker-skinned than the low-landers (but not as dark as the Nimbians from across the sea?). Something like that.

Personally, I imagine them as Mediterranean looking, with olive/lightbrown skin and most likely dark hair and eyes. I guess I got that partially from the setting, and sort of assumed the lowlanders looked different because of the influx of invaders. That's just me, though, I'm sure everyone has a different mental picture. :)

I wish I could picture him with not-so-poofy hair. Too bad he's never been in some period piece or fantasy adventure where he's all disheveled. Ooh, this one isn't bad (http://geektyrant.com/storage/post-images/001.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1278030963784).

I always pictured Sophos as Johnny Flynn, a lovely folk singer from the UK who is currently doing some theatre acting. He's probably too old for it now, but he's got a bit of a baby face, so he might be able to pull it off.
I'd post a picture or a link, but I think since I don't have a LJ account, it thinks I'm spamming the site if I try to do so. I assure you that Johnny Flynn does not equal spam (or SPAM for that matter. That is just gross).

OH MY GOSH yes Johnny Flynn! How did I never think of this before? He even has the scar. Wow.

I tried sharing a pic of Zak Morcillo, another candidate for Sophos, but it got deemed spam as well. Boo.

This guy will always be Sophos in my mind's eye.
